President Donald Trump posted on X on September 17, stating that the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) situation in college sports is "out of control" and will lead to bankruptcies and disaster for many colleges if not addressed. He thanked the United States Senate for a bipartisan vote on the issue.
Trump warned that the NIL issue is "very bad for Women‘s Sports, all Olympic Sports, and everything else other than Football.” He added, “But even Football is bad because, without ‘caps,’ all Colleges will be financially consumed and, in many cases, it will ruin them.” He criticized the practice of “Professional Athletes going back to College for Big Dollars, and playing against much younger competitors,” calling it “dangerous and unfair.” The president noted that only two Republicans, Ashley Moody and Rick Scott from Florida, voted against the measure, but he believes they “will come along.”
Trump revealed that the issue polls at 91%, stating, “THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA WANT IT DONE.” He looks forward to the final vote in the Senate next week and ultimately the House of Representatives. He thanked Coach Nick Saban, Randy Levine of the New York Yankees, and all others involved in sports for their help.
