President Donald Trump announced on social media platform X on October 1 that he met with Republic of Korea President Lee Jae Myung in New York, and they agreed to launch $200 billion of new investments in the United States. These investments will materialize under the $350 billion Korea Strategic Trade and Investment Deal that Trump said he reached with President Myung last year, turning commitments into major construction projects and tens of thousands of American jobs.
Trump detailed three specific projects: a $120 billion nuclear power program to build eight large-scale nuclear reactors in the U.S., including six Westinghouse AP1000 reactors and two Korean APR-1400 reactors; a $50 billion Alaska LNG project to unlock Alaska's resources and build gas infrastructure; and a $22 billion, 6.4-gigawatt natural gas-fired power project in Encinal, Texas.
The President stated these projects will bring more power, construction, manufacturing, and energy security, creating major opportunities for American workers and supporting the trillions of dollars of investment that have come into the U.S. under his administration, including in advanced manufacturing and semiconductors.
