President Donald Trump announced on October 1 the nomination of Philip Aubart to the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.
Aubart currently serves as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of North Carolina, where he previously worked in the Office's Violent Crimes Section. He is also a member of the U.S. Army JAG Corps. A graduate of Dartmouth College and Duke University School of Law, Aubart clerked for Judge Terrence Boyle on the Eastern District of North Carolina. Trump stated that Aubart "has always delivered strong results for the Great People of North Carolina."
The nomination has earned the backing of both of North Carolina's senators, Ted Budd and Thom Tillis, and is strongly recommended by Republican candidate for U.S. Senate and former head of the Republican Party, Michael Whatley. Trump added, "North Carolina can count on Phil to protect Law and Order — He will not let you down."
