The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite added 3.1%, marking the biggest one-day percentage gain since June 24.</p><p>Shares of Halliburton rose 2.1% after the oilfield services provider posted a 41% increase in quarterly adjusted profit. Toymaker Hasbro Inc gained 0.7% after reporting quarterly profit ahead of expectations.</p><p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TFC\">Truist Financial Corp</a> also beat market estimates for quarterly profit, sending the bank's shares up 2.6%.</p><p>"Earnings have come in better than lowered expectations," said Paul Kim, CEO of Simplify Asset Management in New York.</p><p>"So we're not seeing the bite of tighter monetary policy and inflation impacting revenue as much as feared."</p><p>Johnson & Johnson shares lost 1.5%, reversing earlier gains. The healthcare giant reported profit and sales that exceeded expectations but cut its earnings outlook for the year due to a soaring U.S. currency.</p><p>A strong dollar also weighed on shares of IT hardware and services company IBM Corp, which beat quarterly revenue expectations on Monday but warned the hit from forex for the year could be about $3.5 billion.</p><p>The U.S. dollar marked its third straight day of declines as markets reduced the odds of a full percentage-point Federal Reserve rate hike this month.</p><p>Spiraling inflation initially led markets to price in a 100-basis-point hike in interest rates at the upcoming Fed meeting later this month, until some policymakers signaled a 75-basis-point increase.</p><p>The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 754.44 points, or 2.43%, to 31,827.05, the S&P 500 gained 105.84 points, or 2.76%, to 3,936.69 and the Nasdaq Composite added 353.10 points, or 3.11%, to 11,713.15.</p><p>"The macro picture hasn't changed," said Kim. "We still have falling earnings, high inflation pressures and a tightening Fed. Because while the sports-focused streamer has shown that it can grow at a rapid clip, it hasn’t been able to show that it is getting any closer to turning a profit.The near-term outlook does not inspire much confidence either, according to Needham’s Laura Martin. With this in mind, Martin has made some changes to her FUBO model.“We lower our FY22 estimates for FUBO to reflect growing competition in the vMVPD space, slower streaming ad-rev growth, and weakening US consumer spending owing to higher gasoline prices and other inflationary pressures on goods,” the analyst explained.As such, the revenue forecast is reduced from 1.09 billion to 1.047 billion while the EPS estimate changes from ($2.89) to ($3.20).There are no changes to Q2’s estimates although the revenue mix between subscription and advertising is given a tweak. Martin now anticipates subscription revenue will reach $201.6 million – amounting to a 76% year-over-year uptick and 3% above her previous forecast. That said, expectations for ad revenue are reduced by 20% to $20.4 million (up 24% YoY). For the quarter, Martin reckons FUBO will show total sub losses of 89,000, of which North America will account for 84,000 and the rest of the world for the remaining 5000.Looking ahead, Martin expects some of the sub growth to be pushed out of FY22 into FY23, which will lead to higher revenue in FY23, although owing to the company’s wagering initiatives, Martin also expects higher costs next year.Otherwise, there’s no change to Martin’s Buy rating or $5 price target. Should that figure make the grade, investors will be sitting on gains of ~77% a year from now. The S&P 500 slumped 3.9% to its lowest level since March 2021, closing more than 21% below its January record. Monday’s close marked bear market for the S&P 500 since March 2020. During that last bear market, the S&P 500 lost 33.9% before recovering, according to data compiled by S&P Dow Jones Indices. The data also showed that bear markets on average last more than 18 months.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Dow tumbled 2.8%, putting it roughly 17% off its record high. The Nasdaq Composite dropped nearly 4.7% and is now more than 33% off its November record.</p><p>Those losses came as expectations grow for the Fed to hike rates more than initially anticipated. The benchmark rate eased back to about 3.32% on Tuesday.</p><p>“The move in the 10-year Treasury yield toward 3.5% shows the market’s fear that the Fed may fall further behind the curve is increasing,” wrote UBS strategists led by Mark Haefele. “In turn, this will give the Fed less room to ‘declare victory’ and ease off on rate hikes. Johnson & JohnsonJohnson & Johnson has been a leader in the pharmaceutical industry for several decades. The company markets drugs in different therapeutic areas, including oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and infectious diseases. J&J's largest therapeutic areas by revenue are oncology and immunology. These two fields are also the biggest and the fastest-growing in the pharmaceutical industry.Spending on oncology medicines is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9% through 2025; immunology is expected to record a 12% CAGR in the same period. No other drug category is forecast to rise at a CAGR of more than 5%. Johnson & Johnson has established leadership in these two fast-growing areas in the past thanks to cancer drugs such as Darzalex and Imbruvica, and immunosuppressants such as Stelara and Tremfya. And of the company's 94 ongoing clinical trials, 58 are either in oncology or immunology. Beyond its pharmaceutical segment, Johnson & Johnson's medical devices unit also seems to have a bright future, thanks in part to its robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) product, Ottava. The RAS market remains severely underpenetrated. Only 3% of surgeries worldwide are performed using robot assistance.Although there are strong competitors in this market, Johnson & Johnson could profit from its growth in the coming years. It is worth noting that J&J is shedding its consumer health business, which is home to famous over-the-counter brands such as Neutrogena, Tylenol, Benadryl, and more. The company will complete this transaction by the end of the year.The move should help Johnson & Johnson's top-line growth rate increase (consumer health is the least impressive of its segments in this regard) and decrease exposure to lawsuits related to products in this unit. Abbott LaboratoriesAbbott Laboratories is a medical devices specialist with dozens of products. It is also a veteran of the healthcare industry, having proven over the past few decades that it has what it takes to navigate the regulatory hoops required to be successful in this sector. Although Abbott is best-known for its medical devices business, it operates three other segments: Diagnostics, established pharmaceuticals, and nutrition.Abbott was able to keep its revenue and earnings afloat amid the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic and as its medical devices unit was struggling. The company successfully developed and marketed several coronavirus diagnostic tests. That's one of the benefits of having a diversified business. Financial results continue to be good for Abbott Laboratories. In the first quarter, the company's sales jumped by 13.8% year over year to $11.9 billion.Meanwhile, Abbott's adjusted earnings per share jumped by 31.1% year over year to $1.73.One major area of growth for the company is diabetes care -- thanks to its continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system, the FreeStyle Libre. CGM devices allow diabetes patients to keep track of their blood glucose levels continuously throughout the day. The adoption of this technology continues to propel sales of the FreeStyle Libre higher. In the first quarter, Abbott's revenue from this device came in at about $1 billion, 20.4% higher than the year-ago period.The FreeStyle Libre has gained about one million new users in the past year and currently boasts roughly four million users worldwide. With a rising population of diabetes patients, the need for innovative devices like the FreeStyle Libre will only rise in the coming years. Abbott does have other growth avenues, too, including its MitraClip, a leading device for the treatment of mitral regurgitation.Abbott Laboratories is new to the club of Dividend Kings; it has raised its dividends for 50 consecutive years. The gauge, which excludes food and energy, tends to run about a half-percentage point below the consumer price index.</p><p>Economists polled by FactSet expect the core PCE to have risen 4.9% in April from a year earlier, down from an 5.2% clip in March and the slowest pace this year. That is largely because of the so-called base effect, where high year-ago numbers fall out of the calculation, and because of legislated cuts in Medicare payments to medical-services providers, which have weighed on medical-services prices.</p><p>A slowdown in consumer price inflation will be welcome, but markets and policy makers will be more interested in the details of the month-to-month print, says Ian Shepherdson, chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics.</p><p>From a month earlier, economists expect a 0.3% rise in the core PCE. That would be half the 0.6% core CPI reading reported a couple weeks ago, Shepherdson notes. The much smaller weighting of rent in the PCE and differing treatment of airline fares in the two measures explain much of the difference, he says.</p><p>Including food and energy, the PCE is expected to have risen 0.3% from a month earlier and 6.3% from a year earlier.</p><p>Omair Sharif, president of Inflation Insights, predicts the core PCE in April will have slowed a bit more than the consensus anticipates. The gauge, which excludes food and energy, tends to run about a half-percentage point below the consumer price index.Economists polled by FactSet expect the core PCE to have risen 4.9% in April from a year earlier, down from an 5.2% clip in March and the slowest pace this year. That is largely because of the so-called base effect, where high year-ago numbers fall out of the calculation, and because of legislated cuts in Medicare payments to medical-services providers, which have weighed on medical-services prices.A slowdown in consumer price inflation will be welcome, but markets and policy makers will be more interested in the details of the month-to-month print, says Ian Shepherdson, chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics.From a month earlier, economists expect a 0.3% rise in the core PCE. That would be half the 0.6% core CPI reading reported a couple weeks ago, Shepherdson notes. The much smaller weighting of rent in the PCE and differing treatment of airline fares in the two measures explain much of the difference, he says.Including food and energy, the PCE is expected to have risen 0.3% from a month earlier and 6.3% from a year earlier.Omair Sharif, president of Inflation Insights, predicts the core PCE in April will have slowed a bit more than the consensus anticipates. He sees a 0.2% increase from a month earlier, but cautions against reading too much into a lower-than-expected reading.“I think you want to be very careful in interpreting that moderation as indicative of a slowdown in inflation,” given that it’s driven by volatile imputed—or approximated—prices and a different measure of airfares than in the core CPI, he says.Sharif also warns that there are swing factors at play in the latest data, including uncertainty around the BEA’s seasonal factors for used autos and trucks, meaning investors should brace for a surprise in either direction.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".DJI":0.9,".IXIC":0.9,".SPX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2076,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"defaultTab":"posts","isTTM":true}
