I thought my \"three stocks to avoid\" -- CarMax, WD-40, and Tesla Motors -- were going to lose to the market in the past week. They rose 8%, climbed 1%, and finished unchanged, respectively. The final result was an average ascent of 3% for the week. The S&P 500 moved 1.2% higher. I was wrong, but I have still been right 50 of the past 78 weeks, or 64% of the time.Let's turn our attention to the week ahead. I see Tesla Motors, and Crown Castle, and MicroStrategy as stocks you might want to consider steering clear of this week. Let's go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.1. Tesla Motors I mentioned last week that Tesla was likely booking a two-week stay on this list, and here we go into the back nine. Tesla was my lone pick to lose to the market last week -- marching in place as stocks inched higher -- but this is the week when things get real. The most valuable automaker by market cap will pop open the frunk to present its first-quarter results on Wednesday. It could be problematic.Tesla has been cutting prices on its cars in 2023. We'll find out this week what the lower price tags mean to margins for the leading maker of electric vehicles. Analysts see revenue growing 24% for the period, its weakest year-over-year gain in nearly three years. The bottom line will likely be even worse. We already know that Tesla delivered 422,875 vehicles during the first three months of the year. This is a weaker than expected 36% increase, and revenue should be lower than that since the prices car buyers are paying are lower now than they were a year ago. The problem with lowering prices to have demand increase alongside the ramped-up supply is that costs aren't heading lower. Analysts see Tesla clocking in with a profit of $0.86 a share, less then both the $1.07 a share it posted a year earlier and the $1.11 a share that the Wall Street pros were targeting for the quarter at the start of 2023. The market has been paring back top- and bottom-line forecasts for Tesla in 2023, but the stock hasn't shifted into reverse. The shares have soared 50% year-to-date. Bulls will argue that expectations are already low, and there's always the chance that Elon Musk has some juicy news to give long-term investors hope. It's still a potentially thorny financial update. 2. Crown CastleThere's a missed connection between investors and Crown Castle these days. Crown Castle is the nation's largest provider of shared communications infrastructure. Its portfolio consists of more than 40,000 cell towers, leasing space on the structures to wireless carriers and other companies looking to amplify their hyperlocal presence. Crown Castle's empire also watches over roughly 120,000 on-air or under-contract small cell nodes as well as 85,000 route miles of fiber. This was pitched as a great way to play the 5G revolution, but the bullish case has come under fire. Sector consolidation and recession-fearing consumers hesitant to invest in new smartphones have slowed growth for cell tower operators. When Crown Castle reports on Wednesday afternoon the numbers aren't likely to impress. Analysts see a mere 1% increase on the top line and a 7% decline in earnings per share. Crown Castle fell short on the bottom line last time out. It could be a repeat performance, especially with Wall Street lowering its targets in recent months.3. MicroStrategy The third stock on this week's list happens to be the third most valuable stock -- by market cap -- to more than double this year. MicroStrategy shares are up 136% so far in 2023. Its core business intelligence software platform isn't necessarily gaining traction. MicroStategy revenue has declined in seven of the eight previous years. The enterprise software specialist has also fallen short of analyst profit estimates every time over the past year. The surge in MicroStrategy stock is result of CEO Michael Saylor having spent the last few years buying Bitcoin with the company's resources. With the leading cryptocurrency denomination almost doubling itself this year, MicroStrategy has become more a sympathy play for Bitcoin and less a verdict on its fundamentals. It's not a sustainable move here. The stock market is always on the move. If you're looking for safe stocks, you aren't likely to find them in Tesla Motors, Crown Castle, and MicroStrategy this week.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSLA":0.9,"MSTR":0.71,"CCI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1723,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9952650977,"gmtCreate":1674700544000,"gmtModify":1676538953848,"author":{"id":"3574288328492266","authorId":"3574288328492266","name":"Sabniz33","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/77d542c059621f2a7040e901e5702bc8","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574288328492266","authorIdStr":"3574288328492266"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good.","listText":"Good.","text":"Good.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9952650977","repostId":"1160136106","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2512,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9925724956,"gmtCreate":1672114276975,"gmtModify":1676538636628,"author":{"id":"3574288328492266","authorId":"3574288328492266","name":"Sabniz33","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/77d542c059621f2a7040e901e5702bc8","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574288328492266","authorIdStr":"3574288328492266"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Dats good.","listText":"Dats good.","text":"Dats good.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9925724956","repostId":"1129121702","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1129121702","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1672107602,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1129121702?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-12-27 10:20","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Why Alphabet Stock is Cheap Despite Slowing Economy","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1129121702","media":"TipRanks","summary":"Story HighlightsAlphabet’s short-term growth and profit prospects are likely to be suppressed by a d","content":"<div>\n<p>Story HighlightsAlphabet’s short-term growth and profit prospects are likely to be suppressed by a decline in global ad spending. However, long-term investors shouldn’t be too worried.Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) (NASDAQ: GOOG) shares have declined by nearly 39% over the past year, as investors have been increasingly worried about declining ad spending in 2023. The ongoing macroeconomic headwinds are expected to slow down economic growth next year, which should also decrease global advertising spending. Since Alphabet makes most of its money from ads, its earnings will likely take a further hit in Fiscal 2023. Nevertheless, Alphabet stock appears cheap against its future earnings-growth potential. Accordingly, I am bullish on the stock. Why is Alphabet Sensitive to Macroeconomic Headwinds?Alphabet’s performance is quite susceptible to macroeconomic headwinds because most of its revenues are sourced from advertising on search platforms and YouTube. Specifically, in its most recent Q3 report, total advertising revenues came in at $54.5 billion, which calculates to about 89% of its total revenues for the quarter. Therefore, if global advertising spending were to take a significant hit next year, so will Alphabet’s earnings, but why is this likely to occur?Lack of Real GDP Growth in 2023Well, following a rigid macro environment in 2022, the economy is expected to perform poorly next year. In fact, real GDP growth in the United States is expected to come in at 0% in 2023. When the economy is performing poorly, companies are likely to record lower profits and declining revenues, which can result in budget cuts and a decrease in advertising spending. This is usually regarded as a way for companies to trim costs and uphold profitability in tough economic situations.Softer Consumer SpendingIf the economy performs poorly, one of the relatively certain outcomes can be declining consumer spending, which can affect advertising spending further. As consumers trim their expenditures, companies are likely to see a drop in demand for their products or services. This, in turn, is likely to lead them to squeeze their advertising budgets in order to save money.Consumers Favoring Lower-Ticket Products and ServicesAnother factor that is in place here is changes in consumer behavior. Essentially, economic downturns are likely to cause consumers to turn towards lower-priced, lower-margin products. These products leave little to no room for companies to assign high ad spending on them. Consequently, Alphabet’s advertising revenues could decline even if ad volumes were to remain the same, just because the products and services advertised are lower-ticket.Rising Expenses Will Cut into Profit MarginsAlphabet’s expenses have been growing quite substantially. In Q3, the company’s headcount stood at 186,779, up 24.5% year-over-year. If revenue growth doesn’t match Alphabet’s growing expenses, profit margins are most certainly set to decline. This was evident in the company’s quarterly results. With Q3 revenue growth coming in at 9%, Alphabet’s EBITDA and net margins fell to 30.7% and 20.1%, down from 37.4% and 29.0% in the prior-year period, respectively. Thus, Alphabet’s margins could be compressed further if revenue growth doesn’t pick up in 2023.Is Alphabet Stock a Buy, According to Analysts?Turning to Wall Street, Alphabet has a Strong Buy consensus rating based on 29 Buys assigned in the past three months. At $125.76, the average Alphabet stock forecast implies 40.94% upside potential.Takeaway – A Buy or Not?As explained, Mr. Market is troubled with Alphabet’s investment case due to the adverse effects the ongoing trading environment can have on its revenues and earnings next year. That said, given how violent the stock’s sell-off has been, many investors, especially on the retail side, have been wondering lately whether Alphabet shares have reached a bottom, which could signal a buying opportunity. In my view, this is more or less the case. Alphabet appears undervalued relative to its future earnings-growth prospects. Sure, earnings growth took a hit this year, and assuming the economy remains suppressed in 2023, Alphabet’s profits could shrink further.Nevertheless, the stock is currently trading at a P/E ratio of 17.9x. With analysts expecting double-digit earnings-per-share growth over the medium term, however, the stock is essentially trading at a forward P/E ratio of 14.4x Fiscal Year 2024’s earnings per share. Hence, while Alphabet stock could face headwinds in the short term, its recent decline likely presents a fruitful investment opportunity for those looking to hold it over the long term.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"GOOGL":0.9,"GOOG":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2372,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9922280728,"gmtCreate":1671772780665,"gmtModify":1676538591378,"author":{"id":"3574288328492266","authorId":"3574288328492266","name":"Sabniz33","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/77d542c059621f2a7040e901e5702bc8","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574288328492266","authorIdStr":"3574288328492266"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good.","listText":"Good.","text":"Good.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9922280728","repostId":"2293580780","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2293580780","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1671764772,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2293580780?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-12-23 11:06","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Is This New AI Tool the End for Alphabet?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2293580780","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"An Elon Musk-backed start-up may be coming for Google.","content":"<div>\n<p>If you are old enough to remember the search engine Ask Jeeves (now Ask.com) or recall the epigrammatic responses from Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation, then you may find this article amusing. ...</p>\n\n<a href=\"https://www.fool.com/investing/2022/12/22/is-this-new-ai-tool-the-end-for-alphabet/\">Web Link</a>\n\n</div>\n","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; If you don't understand these references, then buckle up for a history lesson. It seems like just yesterday users could ask the all-knowing butler, Jeeves, just about any question that popped into their heads. However, in the early 2000s Alphabet, then just known as Google, came on the scene and quickly dethroned Ask Jeeves, Yahoo!, and others as the dominant search engine. How did Alphabet do this?Well, without getting into too much tech jargon, the simple answer is that Alphabet developed a more robust and sophisticated algorithm. In other words, Alphabet created a better mouse trap. Over the last several years, investors have witnessed Alphabet grow from a search engine to a video sharing platform (YouTube), a hardware business (Android mobile phones), and a cloud computing leader. Now, however, Alphabet may have reason to believe that its search business, which is its primary revenue stream, is at risk.A company called OpenAI, which was co-founded by serial entrepreneur Elon Musk and start-up savant Sam Altman, has released a tool called ChatGPT. In a matter of days, ChatGPT seems to have taken over the internet. Let's explore what this means for Alphabet, and how the company may respond. What is artificial intelligence and how does it work?Artificial intelligence is a form of processing information using machines. Unlike humans or other living creatures, machines do not have emotions and, therefore, when prompted with a set of inputs (questions) they do their best to provide a straightforward, linear output (answers). It's this process that allows search engines like Google to help answer questions about historical figures or notable events. However, machines are not capable of answering more cerebral questions that may have unlimited explanations, or to an extent, are rhetorical in nature. However, for research purposes, news headlines, and general inquiries, Google has become the de facto encyclopedia of the internet.ChatGPT, for its part, certainly offers users some interesting features. The chatbot can write software code, tell stories, and provide some information for fact-checking. However, unlike Google, as of now ChatGPT can only synthesize information from specific parameters, including dates. For this reason, when asking ChatGPT a question related to history, the bot may not know the answer if the specific event or person you're asking about falls outside the range of its current knowledge bank. Moreover, while writing software code sounds like a game-changing feature, it's important to remember that machines are still very much fallible. While ChatGPT may be able to push you in the right direction for your code, the likelihood of it writing a perfect algorithm is slim.In many ways ChatGPT could be viewed as a \"jack of all trades, master of none\" type of machine. By contrast, Google has effectively become the most reliable search engine in the world. So while Google does not explicitly write software for its users or provide interesting stories when prompted, it does carry the ability to provide you with straightforward answers to your questions nearly instantaneously.Has Alphabet acknowledged ChatGPT?Alphabet has acknowledged the rise of ChatGPT, but it may not be showing all of its cards. According to a report from CNBC, Alphabet's executive leadership is aware of ChatGPT, but does not view the artificial intelligence bot as a direct threat at the moment. Leadership stated that while ChatGPT provides an in-demand service, there is more scrutiny of a large technology company like Alphabet. For this reason, Alphabet is better served moving more slowly when releasing products.CNBC also cited a research note from Morgan Stanley in which the bank states that while ChatGPT is impressive, it would be short-sighted to believe that billions of people worldwide would leave Google search overnight. It's also important to remember that Alphabet carries a much stronger balance sheet than a young company like OpenAI. Alphabet has invested significant capital in artificial intelligence, and boasts tools such as its conversational tool called Language Model for Dialogue Applications, or LaMDA. But unlike OpenAI, Alphabet is not in any rush to commercially release such products. Therefore, the company will likely continue reinvesting and testing these products until they are perfected for worldwide use.Could ChatGPT catch up?Alphabet's business is broken down into the following categories: Google Advertising, Google Cloud, and Other Bets. For the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2022, Alphabet reported $69 billion in total revenue. The overwhelming majority of Alphabet's revenue comes from Google Advertising, which was $54 billion, or nearly 80% of total revenue, in Q3 2022. To put this into perspective, technology companies across the board have seen advertising revenue dwindle, yet Alphabet still managed to grow its ad business year over year by 3%. Although 3% is a far cry from Alphabet's peak growth, the fact that the company is generating any growth during a time of high inflation and fear of recession should not be discounted.According to technology journal TechCrunch, OpenAI is on pace to generate $200 million in revenue in 2023 and is projecting $1 billion by 2024. While this growth is impressive, OpenAI's flagship product, ChatGPT, is not even close to generating the tens of billions of dollars in revenue that Google Search yields. At the end of the day, ChatGPT seems to be the latest frenzy on the internet. And although the product is useful in some capacity, it certainly has its limitations. Alphabet, for its part, still easily takes the crown for the internet's most popular search engine, and has other multi-billion dollar businesses underneath its umbrella, including its fast-growing cloud computing segment.Investors should keep a keen eye on OpenAI and its progress; however, there does not seem to be any near-term or intermediate-term risk from ChatGPT.
