But with a patient approach to investin","content":"

Investing in the stock market won't make you rich overnight. But with a patient approach to investing, coupled with several promising picks that could perform well in the long run, you can become much wealthier by investing in stocks over time.

Let's address the second part of this strategy: picking the right stocks, which isn't always an easy task. If you need some inspiration, here are two biotech stocks that are currently down and out with investors -- and while they carry some risk, I believe they have the potential to deliver strong returns to the patient shareholder: Bluebird Bio and Exelixis. Here's why.

1. Bluebird Bio

To say that Bluebird Bio has lagged the market in the past year would be an understatement. The gene-editing specialist has lost over 70% of its value in the trailing-12-month period, a horrible performance by any metric. The company owes this poor showing to a combination of factors, but as is usual with biotech companies, clinical and regulatory setbacks played a significant role.

On the positive side, Bluebird has proven that it can earn regulatory nods for multiple therapies -- few other gene-editing companies can say the same. Both Skysona, a treatment for a pediatric neurodegenerative disorder called cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy (CALD), and Zynteglo, a therapy for the blood disorder transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia (TDT), were approved in Europe.

However, the company opted to leave the European market after failing to land a good deal with third-party payers for its approved gene-editing treatments. It also has had to pause a couple of clinical trials because of suspected adverse reactions. And it recently spun off its oncology business into a separate entity called2Seventy Bio.

Where does that leave Bluebird? It leaves the biotech with a pipeline focused on rare illnesses and some promising programs on the way. In September, the company submitted an application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for beti-cel, a treatment for TDT that was branded as Zynteglo in Europe.

There are few treatments for TDT. But Bluebird's version of the therapy that was approved in Europe costs a hefty 1.58 million euros. The biotech will almost certainly set a high price in the U.S. as well if beti-cel gets approved. There is no denying the value it would bring to patients: a one-time, curative treatment for a disorder that would otherwise require regular blood transfusions for survival.

The company has also submitted a U.S. application for eli-cel, a treatment for CALD that was approved in Europe this past December as Skysona. The FDA granted eli-cel priority review, which is reserved for therapies that could be an improvement over existing treatments. CALD is the most severe form of adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD).

ALD itself is pretty rare, and 40% of boys diagnosed with it end up developing CALD. The only known treatment for this illness is a stem-cell transplant. Eli-cel and beti-cel could both be approved this year with the potential to generate at least several hundred million dollars in peak annual sales -- if not significantly more.

Bluebird looks a bit on the risky side. It currently has no products on the market and is consistently unprofitable. And the biotech could run into even more regulatory headwinds, which would sink its stock even further.

However, Bluebird's current market cap is barely over $500 million. The market isn't putting much value in the company's programs at all. That's what makes this biotech a potentially attractive option. If the company's master plan actualizes, its shares could skyrocket.

2. Exelixis

Exelixis is best-known for its cancer medicine Cabometyx, approved for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In fact, it represents the bulk of the company's sales. But thebiotech's reliance on its crown jewel doesn't bode well for many investors, which partly explains why the company has lagged the market -- down some 18% over the past year.

Still, there is hope for Exelixis, which will report its full financial results on Feb. 17.

First, Cabometyx has continued to increase its sales while grinding out more indications. Exelixis recently announced preliminary results for last year. For the fourth quarter, it expects an 11.1% year-over-year increase in revenue to $300 million -- a solid performance. For the full year, it's estimating $1.08 billion in revenue, an increase of 9.4%. And for 2022, it's predicting $1.3 billion to $1.4 billion in revenue.

Cabometyx is also still being tested in dozens of clinical trials. Results from several phase 3 studies should come in this year, so the cancer medicine could once again earn label expansions. That's good news for Exelixis and its shareholders.

The biotech is now looking to replicate the success it's had with Cabometyx. It's advancing several pipeline candidates through early-stage clinical trials, including a trio of cancer therapies: XL092, XL102, and XB002. The company will update investors on the progress of these programs this year, and these updates could help send its stock price higher.

Within the next couple of years, these products should be moving into late-stage studies. Exelixis' forward price-to-earnings ratio of about 15 -- while higher than the industry average of 11 -- is about as low as it has been in over two years. In the long run, Exelixis should rebound from its recent woes, and it might be worth adding shares of the company right now.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Biotech Stocks That Could Make You Richer
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Biotech Stocks That Could Make You Richer\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-03 09:35 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Investing in the stock market won't make you rich overnight. The resultant high valuations of EV stocks have so far kept value-seeking investors at bay. That may, however, change soon. Several top EV stocks have corrected to some extent recently, making them more attractive. Here are my favorite five EV stocks that look attractive right now.1. ChargePoint HoldingsThe stock of leading electric vehicle charging company ChargePoint Holdings has fallen 69% in a year and 34% so far in January. The stock's steep fall has made it more attractive. Investors adopted a more cautious approach toward EV stocks, including ChargePoint, after their significant rise in early last year.ChargePoint stock's forward price-to-sales (P/S) ratio has fallen to nearly 11 from more than 28 in July last year. The ratio is also lower than ChargePoint's average ratio of 19 in the last year.CHPT P/S Ratio (Forward 1 year) data by YChartsChargePoint's ratio compares favorably with its peers Blink Charging and EVgo, though it's higher than Volta's ratio.ChargePoint is growing its network and revenue quickly. It has around 163,000 charging ports globally. In the third quarter, the company's revenue grew 79% year over year. However, profitability is a key challenge for ChargePoint. Notably, none of the EV charging companies are profitable yet.Still, EV charging companies should become profitable in the future, considering that the demand for EV charging infrastructure is expected to remain strong and grow over time. It remains to be seen how EV charging companies will monetize this growth, but as a leading company, ChargePoint looks better placed than others to benefit from this growth.2. Ford Motor CompanyFord Motor Company is investing heavily in electric vehicles. It intends to spend more than $30 billion on EVs through 2025. Its plans include setting up a nearly 6-square-mile campus in Tennessee to build electric F-Series pickups and batteries. Also, the company has partnered with Korea's SK Innovation to set up two battery plants in Kentucky. Ford is setting up an EV plant in Germany as well.Ford intends to make 40% to 50% of all its vehicles electric by 2030. The automaker wants to become the second-largest electric vehicle manufacturer in the next couple of years. Notably, even if Ford delivers according to its plans, half of its sales would still be internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by 2030.Even if Ford's profit margins and stock prices don't rise dramatically from the current levels, Ford looks poised to grow in the EV segment. Ford seems to have a better chance of establishing itself as a top EV maker than most of the new pure-play EV companies.Image source: Volkswagen.3. VolkswagenVolkswagen (OTC:VWAGY) delivered 8.9 million vehicles globally in 2021. Of these, 452,900 units, or 5.1%, were battery electric vehicles (BEVs). That's significantly higher from 2020 when BEVs accounted for just 2.5% of Volkswagen's total vehicle sales. In the U.S., Volkswagen sold 37,200 BEVs in 2021, capturing the second-highest share of the U.S. BEV market.Though BEVs are a small percentage of Volkswagen's total sales right now, the company expects half of its sales to be electric by 2030. Volkswagen intends to spend 52 billion Euros on electrification through 2026. In short, the top automaker is positioning itself to be a key player in the EV market in the long term.4. Lucid GroupAmong pure-play EV companies, Lucid Group looks interesting. Starting deliveries in October last year, Lucid beat established EV maker Tesla in terms of range. With a range of 520 miles, Lucid's Air model offered at least 100 miles of additional range over Tesla's Model S. Attractive designs and features helped Lucid Air bag MotorTrend's Car of the Year Award. The company has more than 17,000 reservations for the Lucid Air. Moreover, Lucid has robust growth plans. It plans to expand in international markets, starting with Saudi Arabia and Europe. Lucid plans to launch a new model, Gravity, in 2023. Overall, things look positive for Lucid so far. The company has immense growth potential and a long runway. It is, however, important to note that Lucid faces stiff competition from new EV companies as well as legacy car companies. Secondly, though Lucid's initial deliveries have received a positive response, the company has yet to produce profitably at scale. In short, spreading your bets across top stocks could be the best way to invest in the volatile and evolving EV sector.5. BYDChinese automaker $BYD (OTC:BYDDY)$ is the fourth-largest EV maker in the world after Tesla, Volkswagen, and SAIC. BYD sold roughly 320,000 BEVs in 2021.The company has been growing its sales rapidly. In the first nine months of 2021, BYD's sales grew 38% year over year. In December, plug-in vehicles accounted for almost 95% of BYD's vehicle sales. In addition to vehicles, BYD derives a chunk of its revenue from mobile handset components, rechargeable batteries, and solar products.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"CHPT":1,"LCID":1,"BYDDY":0.9,"F":1,"ICE":1,"TSLA":0.61}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2289,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9093975825,"gmtCreate":1643508446238,"gmtModify":1676533826859,"author":{"id":"3577435279042129","authorId":"3577435279042129","name":"Asd123","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d7606b161fd90f319a4d0198cddfcc0e","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577435279042129","authorIdStr":"3577435279042129"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"She's","listText":"She's","text":"She's","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9093975825","repostId":"2207801663","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1759,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9093975360,"gmtCreate":1643508409769,"gmtModify":1676533826859,"author":{"id":"3577435279042129","authorId":"3577435279042129","name":"Asd123","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d7606b161fd90f319a4d0198cddfcc0e","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577435279042129","authorIdStr":"3577435279042129"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Indef","listText":"Indef","text":"Indef","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9093975360","repostId":"1192549951","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1192549951","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1643504825,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1192549951?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-30 09:07","market":"us","language":"en","title":"US IPO Week Ahead: the IPO Market Remains Quiet Heading into February","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1192549951","media":"renaissancecap...","summary":"The IPO calendar is expected to stay relatively quiet in the week ahead, as IPO candidates get their","content":"

The IPO calendar is expected to stay relatively quiet in the week ahead, as IPO candidates get their audited 2021 financials in order and evaluate their chances amid the IPO market meltdown. Virgin Orbit, Sir Richard Branson's latest space special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC), launches satellites to mid-air orbit via rockets deployed from a 747 airliner in flight,.

So what

Virgin Orbit stock was responding to an announcement by NASA yesterday naming Virgin Orbit one of 12 companies that will help it put small satellites in orbit in years to come. Some of these companies, like fellow space SPAC stock Astra Space, are as small as Virgin Orbit; some are smaller, like start-up Phantom Space, and some are downright huge, like SpaceX and Boeing-and-Lockheed Martin joint venture -- United Launch Services.

NASA's contract was couched in the form of an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ)defense contract that doesn't actually guarantee Virgin Orbitanyrevenue. But with a $300 million ceiling value and a five-year time span, chances are good that Virgin Orbit will win at least some of the money on offer as NASA chooses contractors to put its satellites into orbit over the next half-decade.

Now what

Even if Virgin Orbit were to win all of the $300 million on offer (it won't) and recorded all of that money in a single year, Virgin Orbit's $2.7 billion market capitalization would still value this space start-up at nearly nine times revenues -- quite a pricey multiple. Virgin Orbit, Sir Richard Branson's latest space special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC), launches satellites to mid-air orbit via rockets deployed from a 747 airliner in flight,.So whatVirgin Orbit stock was responding to an announcement by NASA yesterday naming Virgin Orbit one of 12 companies that will help it put small satellites in orbit in years to come. Some of these companies, like fellow space SPAC stock Astra Space, are as small as Virgin Orbit; some are smaller, like start-up Phantom Space, and some are downright huge, like SpaceX and Boeing-and-Lockheed Martin joint venture -- United Launch Services.NASA's contract was couched in the form of an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ)defense contract that doesn't actually guarantee Virgin Orbitanyrevenue. But with a $300 million ceiling value and a five-year time span, chances are good that Virgin Orbit will win at least some of the money on offer as NASA chooses contractors to put its satellites into orbit over the next half-decade.Now whatEven if Virgin Orbit were to win all of the $300 million on offer (it won't) and recorded all of that money in a single year, Virgin Orbit's $2.7 billion market capitalization would still value this space start-up at nearly nine times revenues -- quite a pricey multiple. Investors shouldn't buy Virgin Orbit based solely on this single NASA contract.That being said, the fact that NASA put Virgin Orbit on its short list is a positive sign for the stock and indicates a high level of confidence that the space agency is placing in this launch provider. Over time, that confidence could translate into more contracts from other buyers, and more revenues, and eventually some profits -- helping Virgin Orbit to one day grow into its valuation.At least, that's the bull thesis for this growth stock. Fingers crossed that it will work out.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"VORB":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3162,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9090646780,"gmtCreate":1643176653781,"gmtModify":1676533782159,"author":{"id":"3577435279042129","authorId":"3577435279042129","name":"Asd123","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d7606b161fd90f319a4d0198cddfcc0e","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577435279042129","authorIdStr":"3577435279042129"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Bunin","listText":"Bunin","text":"Bunin","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9090646780","repostId":"1145278550","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2404,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"defaultTab":"posts","isTTM":true}
