$NIO Inc.(NIO)$  So, NIO’s stock is trading around US $7.25 right now. It’s not huge like some names you hear every day, but the story here is interesting and I like what I’m seeing.

Here’s the deal:

• In the most recent quarter, NIO reported revenues of about US $2.65 billion (roughly RMB 19,008.7 million).

• Vehicle deliveries in that same quarter hit around 72,056 units, which is up quite a bit compared to a year earlier.

• On the margin side: NIO still isn’t profitable — the company posted a sizable loss in the first quarter (~US $930 million) but it did show progress in gross profit and margin improvement.

• They’re also planning for growth and product expansion: NIO is pushing into new models, targeting broader segments via sub-brands, and investing in things like battery-swap infrastructure and next-gen EV tech.

What makes me feel optimistic:

• If you believe electric vehicles are going to keep growing (especially in China and globally) — NIO is set up to benefit.

• They’re moving from just premium niche into more volume, which means more potential upside if execution goes well.

• Their delivery numbers rising means they’re gaining traction, and that gives me hope they’ll scale.

• The fact that they’re still in the red doesn’t scare me as much in this case — growth companies often take time to turn profits, and if NIO can improve margins, the reward could be big.

Things to keep in mind:

• Big competition in the EV space in China and globally — margin pressure, pricing wars, supply-chain costs all matter.

• Being at a lower price (~US $7) means more volatility — things can go sideways faster.

• Execution risk: growth is one thing, but ramping production, delivering quality, managing finances, all have to be on point for the bullish case.

Bottom line: If I were thinking about a “buy and hold for the next 5-10 years” type of play, NIO checks a lot of boxes for me. It’s not risk-free by any means, but if you’re comfortable with some risk and believe in where EVs and clean tech are headed, I’d say this is one to consider and keep for the long haul.
