The Great Tesla Debate: Profit Taking Time or Is The Robotaxi Rocket Fueled for 2026?
πππHere we are again at the end of the year and Tesla $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$
So is it time to take your hard earned profits and run for the hills or is it just a pitstop before the real breakout in 2026?
Tesla's 2025 Performance In the Rearview Mirror
2025 has been a year of wild swings for Tesla. Its stock plunged in Q1 and then recovering spectacularly. It felt less like a smooth ride and more like a period of consolidation, or as the analysts might call it "volatility".
Despite recent highs, there is a cloud on the horizon: Analysts are lowering their expectations for Q4 vehicle deliveries. Some forecasts are even coming below 420,000 units, citing a drop in US demand after a key tax credit expired.
Tesla's P/E ratio is sitting at a nosebleed 317.84, reflecting massive future expectations rather than current performance.
The 2026 Question: Breakout or Bust?
Could 2026 finally be the breakout year we have been hoping for? The future narrative isn't about car sales anymore. It is about AI, robotics and the much hyped Robotaxi fleet and Cybercab production, which is set to begin in April 2026.
Wedbush analyst, Dan Ives calls 2026 a "defining year" for Tesla, where the shift from FSD promises to "real world" execution will be key.
Trading Charts and Analyst Expectations
From a chart perspective, TSLA has shown strength recently, breaking key moving averages. However Wall Street remains deeply divided on Tesla's future.
The analyst consensus rating is a cautious "Hold" overall with 12 Buy ratings, 12 Hold ratings and 9 Sell ratings.
Average Target Price: The consensus 12 month target stands at USD 385.34, which actually suggests a potential downside from the current price.
High Target: Superbullish analysts like Dan Ives have targets as high as USD 600 per share, believing in the AI and Robotaxi vision.
ARK's view: Cathie Wood maintains a long term (2029) price target of an astonishing USD 2,600, almost entirely based on the autonomous ride hailing business.
Concluding Thoughts
So is it time to take profits? Well even the biggest bulls like Cathie Wood are doing it to rebalance their portfolios.
Whether you hold on for the potential Robotaxi jackpot or lock in those gains is the million dollar question.
As always with Tesla's, this is a stock with personality, a huge fanbase and enough volatility to make your stomach churn!
Tread carefully!
