10/14 Strategy Preview | Inflation Is Heating Up Again

① What Happened Today

U.S. inflation rose to 3.7%, and rate pressure is back in the market.

CPI came in hotter than expected: September CPI rose to 3.7% year over year, and core CPI rose to 2.6%. Higher energy prices pushed inflation up. Treasury yields jumped, the dollar strengthened, and gold and silver came under pressure. The market is starting to bet on more Fed rate hikes ahead, which is bad for tech stock valuations.

Anthropic becomes the focus of the AI trade: Investor Day will test how AI commercialization is going. The market is watching whether annual recurring revenue (ARR) can keep growing, and when AI spending will turn into profit. Semiconductors were recently cut by hedge funds, but overall positioning is still high. If earnings or guidance miss, the sector could keep swinging.

ASML earnings weren't bad, but missed the key answer: Q3 gross margin hit 57.5%, and the company is bullish on future demand. But 2027 EUV shipments and 2028 expansion scale are still unclear. The market doesn't just want one good quarter — it wants to know if the next two years of growth will actually happen.

AI and tech stocks split: META rose on strong Muse usage data. GOOGL rose after releasing Gemini 4 Argon. On the other hand, CRWV fell 7% as surging bond yields raised concerns about its funding costs and financial risk. PANW and CRWD also weakened.

② What Money Is Betting On / Protecting Against

[Buyers] Long-term bets on Tesla, short-term defense on Disney

TSLA | 2027/04/16 430 Call$TSLA 20270416 430.0 CALL$
3,999 contracts | about $10.9573M traded | current price $373.19
Big long-term bullish trade, betting Tesla still has big upside over the next six months to a year. But 430 is about 15% above the current price, and you also have to factor in time and volatility. A stock going up doesn't guarantee a profit.

TQQQ | 2027/01/15 83 Call$TQQQ 20270115 83.0 CALL$
3,710 contracts | about $2.5413M traded | current price $78.40
Betting Nasdaq-related assets keep rising. TQQQ has 3x leverage, so long holding periods carry high path decay and volatility risk. It's not the same as a plain ETF bullish trade.

DIS | 2026/10/23 106 Put$DIS 20261023 106.0 PUT$
21,100 contracts | about $1.2438M traded | current price $109.46
Buying short-term puts, betting Disney may fall before expiration, or using it to hedge shares. This trade expires soon. If the stock doesn't drop in time, the option can quickly lose time value.

[Sellers] Most are betting stocks won't fall, but also capping upside on some names

AAPL | 2027/01/15 340 Put$AAPL 20270115 340.0 PUT$
5,089 contracts | about $6.2595M traded | current price $346.42
Selling puts, betting Apple won't fall much below 340 before expiration, to collect premium. But the strike is near the current price, so watch for downside risk.

QQQ | 2026/10/23 711 Put$QQQ 20261023 711.0 PUT$
14,000 contracts | about $1.89M traded | current price $742.68
Selling puts, betting the Nasdaq 100 ETF won't fall below 711 short term. If the market reprices rates because of hotter inflation, a tech pullback could pressure these sellers. The real direction still needs to be confirmed by the trade structure.

EWY | 2026/11/20 150 Put$EWY 20261120 150.0 PUT$
6,500 contracts | about $2.2685M traded | current price $164.69
Selling puts, betting the Korea ETF holds near 150 before expiration. This is a premium-collecting trade, but if semiconductor conditions or market risk sentiment worsen, it can still drop.

AMAT | 2026/11/20 370 Put$AMAT 20261120 370.0 PUT$
3,210 contracts | about $821.8K traded | current price $481.31
Selling puts, betting Applied Materials won't fall much below 370. Semiconductors are waiting for Anthropic to say more about AI demand. If money keeps leaving chip stocks, this trade isn't risk-free either.

AMD | 2026/11/06 460 Put $AMD 20261106 460.0 PUT$
2,600 contracts | about $566.8K traded | current price $589.93
Selling puts, betting AMD won't fall below 460 before expiration. The strike is below the current price, but we still need to watch whether AI chip demand and sector valuations get pressured by rising rates.

BAC | 2026/11/06 49 Put$BAC 20261106 49.0 PUT$
10,200 contracts | about $204K traded | current price $54.11
An earnings-related put sale, showing traders are willing to take assignment risk near 49 in exchange for premium. Watch how bank earnings affect rates, credit costs, and market sentiment.

INTC | 2026/11/20 130 Call $INTC 20261120 130.0 CALL$
Two trades totaling 5,681 contracts | about $999.2K traded | current price about $101.82
Selling calls, betting Intel won't rise to 130 short term. The strike is about 28% above the current price, showing the market is betting the stock won't spike. But sellers still face the risk of a fast rally and volatility changes.

Other watch: WFC sold 92.5 calls, betting Wells Fargo won't rally hard. If it's a sell-to-open position, it's closer to a premium-collecting strategy.

Money summary: Buyers are mainly doing long-term bullish TSLA and TQQQ trades, plus a short-term bearish DIS trade. Sellers are mostly selling puts on tech stocks and indexes. Overall, it looks more like betting prices won't break specific levels than a full bearish view. But buy/sell direction alone can't confirm an institution's full position, and you can't just say sellers are winning.

③ Where to Watch the Related Tickers

ASML / Semiconductors: Can demand turn into clear future orders?
The 57.5% gross margin and strong demand are good news, but the market cares more about whether 2027 EUV shipments can beat the original plan, and how big the 2028 expansion will be. If management gives higher numbers, semiconductor sentiment could improve. If it's just optimistic talk with no hard numbers, the stock could stay under pressure.

META: Can AI bring profit, not just usage?
Muse downloads and active user growth help build confidence, but AI infrastructure and R&D spending can also raise costs. If the market starts to believe AI can improve ad efficiency and boost EPS, the stock could find support. If spending keeps growing faster than revenue contribution, the bounce may be limited.

TSLA: Watch the 430 long-term target and the bumps along the way.
The 430 call expires in April 2027, so it's a longer-term directional bet, not a pre-market short-term target. Even if the stock rises, the option can still lose money if the size, speed, or implied volatility of the move doesn't match what the buyer expected.

QQQ / AAPL / AMD / AMAT: Watch if rising rates trigger a deeper tech pullback.
Put sellers are willing to take the risk of the stock falling to the strike in exchange for premium. But hotter CPI could make the market rethink rates and tech valuations. If yields keep rising and the selloff grows, these premium-collecting strategies will also feel pressure.

INTC: Watch for unusual strength above 130.
Current price is about $101.82, and the 130 call is above the current price. Sellers are betting it won't break through before expiration, but that doesn't mean the stock can't spike. Volume and open interest differ a lot here, so don't assume one trade means institutions are all bearish.

④ What to Watch Pre-Market Today

Rates and inflation: Whether the 10-year Treasury yield keeps jumping will affect tech valuations and funding pressure on highly indebted companies.

Anthropic Investor Day: The key isn't just the ARR number. It's whether management can confirm revenue is accelerating, improve AI commercialization expectations, and explain how demand affects semiconductor equipment and compute power.

ASML earnings call: Watch for hard guidance on 2027 EUV shipments and 2028 expansion to judge whether semiconductors have a new reason to revise up.

META and GOOGL: Watch whether AI product hype turns into sustained stock performance, and whether the market rethinks AI costs and profits.

CRWV and high-funding-cost tech stocks: If bond yields keep climbing, the market may further separate AI companies with cash flow from compute companies that need lots of financing.

QQQ and semiconductor stocks: If the index comes under pressure, whether put-seller support holds will be an important sign of whether the market shifts from chopping to a deeper pullback.

One-Line Read

Hotter inflation is pushing rate pressure higher, while the AI trade waits for Anthropic and ASML to give harder growth evidence. Money still has long-term bullish bets and put-selling positions, but if yields keep rising and semiconductor guidance isn't strong enough, the market may test lower support first.

Risk note: This is an educational read of market info and options trade structures. It is not investment advice. Option buyers can lose all their premium, and sellers can face losses that are large or even bigger than the premium.
