Alphabet (GOOG) and Microsoft (MSFT) Downturn Is Opportunity To Stock Up 🙏👌🚀
Alphabet and Microsoft reported results within hours of each other. But while both companies are investing heavily in artificial intelligence, Wall Street delivered two very different verdicts.
The dividing line? Not just how much companies spend on AI, but how effectively they turn that spending into growth and cash flow.
Alphabet: Cloud Growth Comes at a Cost
$Alphabet(GOOG)$ cloud business is expanding as Google races to establish itself as a leading provider of AI infrastructure. The early results are encouraging, but the price tag is becoming harder for investors to ignore.
For the second consecutive quarter, Alphabet reported negative free cash flow, with an outflow of $9.1 billion. The company’s ambitious data-center expansion is consuming significant resources, raising questions about when its AI investments will generate returns substantial enough to offset the costs.
That pressure weighed on the stock. Even with cloud growth supporting the business, investors are increasingly focused on the balance between expansion and profitability.
Microsoft: AI Growth Without Overspending?
$Microsoft(MSFT)$ offered a more reassuring picture.
The company beat Wall Street’s earnings expectations, while capital expenditures came in below forecasts. Microsoft spent $45.2 billion during the quarter, well above the $34.9 billion recorded a year earlier, but less than analysts had anticipated.
Azure revenue also exceeded expectations, reinforcing Microsoft’s position as one of the few technology giants demonstrating that AI demand can translate into meaningful business growth.
The takeaway is important: investors want evidence that AI spending is producing results, not simply promises of future returns. Microsoft’s combination of strong cloud performance and lower-than-expected spending helped distinguish it from Alphabet.
$Amazon.com(AMZN)$ is next in line, with its results expected to provide another crucial test of whether the hyperscalers can sustain their enormous AI investments while protecting profitability.

It's beautiful when a company like Google admits that their own AI is eating up their own Google Ad revenue !!!
Google-owner Alphabet lost just over $500bn (£374bn) in value on Thursday after it revealed its own artificial intelligence (AI) summaries were hitting search advertising revenue.
Chief business officer Philipp Schindler said Google's "AI mode", where it answers questions conversationally, was eating into the money it makes from ads which appear next to results to traditional search questions.
Yet, Schindler said he felt "very good about our trajectory" with an AI-focused version of the search engine.
Google's role in answering the world's questions has been challenged by the AI boom, with millions of people using programs such as ChatGPT and Claude instead.
