Palantir Nearly Doubled Revenue and Still Fell. I Think the Market Found the One Number That Matters Next.

Palantir just delivered the kind of quarter most companies could only dream of.

Revenue:

$2.313B

Up:

96% YoY.

U.S. commercial revenue:

$984M

Up:

148%.

U.S. government revenue:

$953M

Up:

96%.

Adjusted EPS:

$0.44.

Adjusted free cash flow:

$1.22B.

FCF margin:

53%.

And management RAISED full-year revenue guidance to:

$8.530B-$8.534B.

Then the stock fell.

Again.

At around $163 pre-market, Palantir is down roughly:

8.5%.

So what exactly does the market want?

I think I found the answer.

And strangely?

It isn't revenue.

It isn't EPS.

It isn't even free cash flow.

It is:

THE NEXT DOLLAR.

🔥 FIRST, THIS WAS AN EXTRAORDINARY QUARTER

Let's not rewrite reality simply because the stock fell.

Palantir's business is accelerating at a scale that is extremely unusual.

Total revenue:

+96%.

U.S. revenue:

+119%.

U.S. commercial:

+148%.

U.S. government:

+96%.

And for the first time in Palantir's history:

U.S. COMMERCIAL REVENUE SURPASSED U.S. GOVERNMENT REVENUE.

That matters enormously.

For years, one of the bear arguments against Palantir was:

too dependent on government

long procurement cycles

difficult to scale commercially

too much bespoke implementation.

That argument is becoming much harder to make.

Palantir isn't merely:

A GOVERNMENT SOFTWARE COMPANY WITH AN AI STORY.

It is increasingly:

A COMMERCIAL AI PLATFORM WITH A GOVERNMENT MOAT.

That is a completely different business.

🧠 AND LOOK AT THE ECONOMICS

This is where Palantir separates itself from many AI companies.

Adjusted operating income:

$1.43B.

Adjusted operating margin:

62%.

Adjusted free cash flow:

$1.22B.

FCF margin:

53%.

GAAP net income:

$1.13B.

Palantir isn't telling investors:

“WE WILL MONETISE AI SOMEDAY.”

It is monetising AI:

NOW.

Remember the framework from my recent AI articles?

The market is moving from:

AI SPENDING

to:

AI RETURNS.

Palantir passes that test spectacularly.

Revenue?

Yes.

Margins?

Yes.

Cash?

Yes.

Growth?

Absolutely.

So why sell it?

🚨 BECAUSE PALANTIR HAS A DIFFERENT PROBLEM

When a company is mediocre?

The market asks:

“CAN YOU IMPROVE?”

When a company is exceptional?

The market asks:

“CAN YOU KEEP DOING THIS?”

And Palantir's valuation requires:

EXCEPTIONAL TO REMAIN NORMAL.

That is a much harder standard.

This is why one number buried beneath the headline results caught my attention.

U.S. commercial revenue grew:

148%.

But reported U.S. commercial contract value growth slowed sharply to around:

11% YoY.

That compares with more than:

150%

growth in the previous quarter.

Now THAT is interesting.

Because revenue tells me:

WHAT PALANTIR ALREADY SOLD.

Bookings and contract value can help tell me:

WHAT MAY FEED FUTURE REVENUE.

And when a stock carries an extraordinary valuation?

The market doesn't only care about today's growth.

It tries to price:

TOMORROW'S DECELERATION BEFORE IT ARRIVES.

That is why I think the selloff deserves more respect than simply saying:

“Wall Street doesn't understand Palantir.”

Wall Street understands the numbers.

The debate is over:

HOW LONG THOSE NUMBERS CAN REMAIN EXTRAORDINARY.

🔥 BUT I WOULD NOT PANIC OVER ONE QUARTER OF BOOKINGS

This distinction is critical.

Contract timing can be messy.

Palantir closed:

212 DEALS ABOVE $1M

including:

107 ABOVE $5M

and:

64 ABOVE $10M.

Net dollar retention reached:

165%.

That tells us existing customers are spending dramatically more.

And Q4 guidance?

Revenue:

$2.649B-$2.653B.

That is well above the roughly $2.46B Wall Street had expected.

So management itself is NOT signalling an immediate revenue cliff.

Quite the opposite.

Full-year revenue guidance now implies approximately:

91% GROWTH.

U.S. commercial revenue guidance implies at least:

143% GROWTH.

So I would not interpret slower contract-value growth as:

“PALANTIR'S AI BOOM IS OVER.”

I would interpret it as:

THE FIRST NUMBER I WANT TO WATCH VERY CLOSELY NEXT QUARTER.

That is very different.

🔵 PALANTIR HAS ALREADY PASSED THE TEST GOOGLE AND AMD ARE STILL TAKING

This is where the bigger AI framework becomes fascinating.

Google is spending enormous amounts trying to convert AI infrastructure into cash.

AMD has enormous AI commitments and now needs to convert:

ORDERS → SHIPMENTS → REVENUE → MARGIN → CASH.

Palantir?

It is already at:

CASH.

Think about the chain:

AI PRODUCT

↓

CUSTOMER ADOPTION

↓

REVENUE

↓

MARGIN

↓

CASH

Palantir has moved through the entire chain.

That is why I think PLTR deserves:

A PREMIUM VALUATION.

The argument is not whether it deserves a premium.

It does.

The argument is:

HOW MUCH PREMIUM IS TOO MUCH?

🔥 AND THIS IS WHERE THE STOCK BECOMES DIFFICULT

At around:

$163

Palantir is cheaper than it was yesterday.

But:

CHEAPER ≠ CHEAP.

That distinction matters.

A company can report:

96% revenue growth

148% commercial growth

62% adjusted operating margin

53% FCF margin

and STILL be overvalued if investors have already priced years of extraordinary execution into the stock.

That is why I would not automatically buy PLTR simply because it fell 8%.

But I also would NOT sell an exceptional business solely because the multiple looks frightening.

I would:

LET PRICE COME TO ME.

📍 MY PLTR BUYING MAP

At roughly:

$160-$165

🟡 WATCH / SMALL STARTER

For someone who wants long-term exposure, I can justify beginning small.

But I would keep plenty of ammunition.

🟢 $145-$155

FIRST REAL PICK

This becomes considerably more attractive if:

commercial growth remains exceptional

Q4 guidance remains intact

NDR remains strong

cash generation remains exceptional.

🟢 $125-$140

PREFERRED BUY ZONE

This is where valuation compression begins giving me much better compensation for the risk.

If fundamentals remain unchanged?

I would want more shares.

But:

🔴 BELOW $120

THESIS CHECK

Not because $120 itself destroys the business.

Because a decline that deep after these results would make me investigate whether the market sees:

bookings deterioration

contract delays

government spending risk

commercial saturation

or:

broader AI multiple compression.

Never average mechanically.

The lower the price falls:

THE MORE IMPORTANT THE WHY BECOMES.

🔮 MY THREE PLTR SCENARIOS

🟢 BULL CASE: 30%

The bookings slowdown proves temporary.

Commercial adoption keeps exploding.

Q4 beats again.

Palantir continues converting AI adoption into extraordinary margins and cash.

Then today's selloff becomes another shakeout.

First recovery:

$175-$180

Then:

$190-$200.

And if growth remains near these extraordinary levels?

New highs return to the conversation.

🟡 BASE CASE: 50%

The business remains phenomenal.

But valuation compresses.

Growth remains strong while investors demand increasingly better entry prices.

PLTR trades through a volatile:

$145-$180

range while earnings gradually catch up with the share price.

This is actually the scenario I would prefer.

Why?

Because:

I WANT THE BUSINESS TO CATCH THE VALUATION.

Not the valuation to keep outrunning the business.

🔴 BEAR CASE: 20%

Bookings weakness persists.

Revenue growth begins decelerating faster than expected.

Commercial customer additions slow.

The market stops paying an extreme multiple for future growth.

Then:

$125-$140

comes into play.

And below $120?

I reassess the entire valuation framework.

🚨 WHAT WOULD ACTUALLY MAKE ME WORRIED?

Not today's 8% decline.

I care about:

🔴 U.S. commercial contract value remaining weak

One quarter can be timing.

Several quarters become a trend.

🔴 NDR rolling over

165% is extraordinary.

A meaningful deterioration would matter.

🔴 U.S. commercial growth decelerating sharply

This is now the heart of the bull thesis.

🔴 Q4 revenue missing the $2.649B-$2.653B guide

That would be much more concerning than today's stock reaction.

🔴 free cash flow margins deteriorating

Because Palantir's exceptional economics justify part of its premium.

🔴 guidance becoming conservative because demand is weakening

Not merely because management likes underpromising.

Those would change my thesis.

The share price falling does not.

🧠 BUT HERE IS THE BIGGER INSIGHT

Something historic happened this quarter that I think is being overshadowed by the valuation debate.

For the first time:

PALANTIR'S U.S. COMMERCIAL BUSINESS BECAME BIGGER THAN ITS U.S. GOVERNMENT BUSINESS.

That may eventually prove more important than whether PLTR trades at $163 or $180 this week.

Why?

Because it changes Palantir's identity.

The original moat was:

GOVERNMENT.

The next growth engine is:

ENTERPRISE.

And the bridge between them is:

AI.

Palantir spent years proving its software could solve extremely difficult problems for governments.

Now corporations are effectively saying:

“WE WANT THAT TOO.”

That expands the opportunity enormously.

🔥 AND THERE IS ANOTHER NUMBER I LOVE

Net dollar retention:

165%.

Think about what that means.

Palantir doesn't merely need to keep finding new customers.

Existing customers are dramatically expanding their spending.

That suggests something powerful:

PALANTIR MAY LAND SMALLER THAN IT EXPANDS.

A company enters.

Deploys AIP.

Finds one useful workflow.

Then another.

Then another.

The platform becomes embedded.

And spending expands.

That creates one of my favourite software characteristics:

THE CUSTOMER BECOMES MORE VALUABLE WITH TIME.

That is exactly what I want to see from enterprise AI.

🔥 SO HAS PALANTIR PRICED EVERYTHING IN?

Some of it?

Absolutely.

Maybe a lot of it.

But I think asking:

“IS PLTR EXPENSIVE?”

is too simplistic.

Of course it is expensive.

The better question is:

“IS THE BUSINESS COMPOUNDING FAST ENOUGH TO GROW INTO THE VALUATION?”

And after this quarter?

My answer remains:

POSSIBLY.

But the margin for disappointment is tiny.

That is why I don't chase PLTR.

And I don't short it merely because a valuation spreadsheet tells me it is expensive.

I wait for:

PRICE + FUNDAMENTALS

to give me the asymmetry I want.

MY CALL

Palantir just showed us something incredibly important.

The company has moved beyond:

THE AI STORY PHASE.

It is already in:

THE AI ECONOMICS PHASE.

Revenue:

REAL.

Margins:

REAL.

Cash:

REAL.

Commercial adoption:

REAL.

But the valuation?

Also:

VERY REAL.

So the next Palantir debate isn't:

“CAN PALANTIR MONETISE AI?”

It already has.

The question is:

“CAN FUTURE CONTRACT GROWTH KEEP FEEDING THE MACHINE FAST ENOUGH TO JUSTIFY WHAT INVESTORS ALREADY EXPECT?”

That is why I am watching bookings more closely than EPS from here.

The headline number yesterday was:

96% REVENUE GROWTH.

The number that could determine PLTR's next re-rating may be:

THE NEXT CONTRACT.

At $163?

I watch.

At $145-$155?

I START PICKING.

At $125-$140 with the thesis intact?

I GET INTERESTED.

Because I want to own extraordinary businesses.

But I want something else too:

A PRICE THAT LEAVES ROOM TO BE WRONG.

I am not a financial advisor. Trade wisely, Comrades!

Would you buy PLTR after the earnings selloff, or does the valuation still need to come down before you touch it?

I would wait for all three results before deciding. Comparing earnings, margins and outlooks will help identify the strongest bank with better risk-reward.

  • Thanks for the info. Palantir is a fantastic AI company without any doubt. Wide moat and still holding tons of cash. No doubt can buy the dip.
