11/06 Strategy Preview | After the Crash, Don't Rush to Buy the Dip

① What Happened Today?

US stocks got hit by panic selling. AI and semis were the hardest hit, but bounce signals are starting to show.

The S&P 500 fell 4.36%, the Nasdaq 100 dropped 6.36%, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index crashed 12%, and the VIX rose to 27.77. Volume picked up clearly, showing money is cutting risk in a hurry.

Three things to watch:

  • AI investment confidence is shaking: The market is starting to worry about slower data center construction. Microsoft exited some Nscale projects, adding to the selloff in semis and AI infrastructure stocks.

  • Semis bounced: Later reports said Anthropic's annualized revenue topped $80B, which drove semis up about 6%. But big tech stayed weak, so it's not enough to confirm a bottom.

  • Jobs beat expectations: October added 165K jobs, above the 65K expected, with unemployment at 4.1%. Strong jobs data could weaken rate-cut expectations and keep pressure on tech valuations.

② What Money Is Betting On / Protecting Against

Buyers: Big money is still buying Puts for downside protection, but some money is starting to bet on single-stock bounces.

[Buyer] NVDA | 12/18 120 Put$NVDA 20261218 120.0 PUT$
100K contracts | $10.4M traded | stock $181.60
Buying deep out-of-the-money Puts, possibly tail-risk hedging or a bearish position. Shows the market still worries AI stocks could fall further.

[Buyer] DRAM | 12/18 25 Put$DRAM 20261218 25.0 PUT$
108K contracts | stock $39.28
Heavy out-of-the-money Put buying, possibly positioning for downside protection in case memory stocks pull back further.

[Buyer] SOXX | 11/06 120/110 Put Spread
Buy 120P$SOXX 20261106 120.0 PUT$ , sell 110P$SOXX 20261106 110.0 PUT$ , 164K contracts each | stock $133.81
A bear put spread with net premium cost around $0.25 per share, showing money is still wary of short-term semi downside.

[Buyer] INTC | 2027/09/17 100 Call$INTC 20270917 100.0 CALL$
20K contracts | $7.4793M traded | stock $55.53
A long-term bullish position, possibly betting on an Intel rebound. But the strike is far from the current price, so it's a high-risk directional trade.

Sellers: Some money is starting to collect Put premium, but strike choices show clear disagreement.

[Seller] NVDA | 12/18 80 Put$NVDA 20261218 80.0 PUT$
124.4K contracts | $1.4932M traded | stock $181.60
Selling extremely deep out-of-the-money Puts shows some money is willing to take extreme downside risk to collect premium. It doesn't mean a short-term bottom is in.

[Seller] DRAM | 12/18 35 Put$DRAM 20261218 35.0 PUT$
120K contracts | stock $39.28
Heavy selling of 35 Puts may show willingness to take assignment risk at a lower price, or to lower portfolio cost by selling Puts.

[Seller] QQQ | 2028/12/15 530 Put$QQQ 20281215 530.0 PUT$
5,000 contracts | $16.825M traded | stock $655.93
A long-dated Put sale, possibly reflecting acceptance of long-term valuation. But it can't be treated as a short-term bounce signal.

③ What to Watch for Related Tickers

NVDA | Can it hold near $181?
Buyers keep adding 120P and 150P downside protection. Even though the strikes are far below the current price, it shows the market is still cautious about more pullback. If a bounce can't reclaim recent broken levels, don't rush to sell Puts just because IV is higher.

SOXX | Bounce strength near $133.81
Semis bounced about 6% after the crash, but the 120/110 Put spread shows short-term downside protection demand is still there. Watch whether the bounce continues, not just one day's gain.

DRAM | $35 becomes a key watch level
DRAM saw both 108K 25 Put buying and 120K 35 Put selling, showing money disagrees on downside risk. If both are one combo, it could be a bullish Put credit spread, not a pure bearish position.

**INTC | Can it stabilize near $55?**
Long-term 100C buying shows some money is betting on long-term upside, but it doesn't mean the short-term drop has stopped. Watch support near $55 and whether semis stabilize at the same time.

④ What to Watch Before the Open Today

  • SPY / QQQ: After the jobs data, watch how Treasury yields and rate-cut expectations move. If the index bounce is weak, watch for more forced selling pressure.

  • NVDA / SOXX / DRAM: Can the semi bounce continue, or is it just short covering after the crash?

  • MSFT / AMZN / META: Can big tech see defensive buying again? Watch whether the AI selloff starts to ease.

  • VIX: Watch whether it pulls back from around 27.77. If stocks bounce but VIX stays high, the market's worry about downside risk isn't gone.

One-Line Read:
The market has shifted from worrying about AI valuations to worrying about forced selling. Semis bounced, but Put protection demand is still strong. Today's focus isn't chasing the bounce — it's confirming whether selling pressure is really fading.

  • All 3 indices are down today. DJI down 2.66% Nasdaq down 4.77% and S&P 500 3.62% . looks like investors are bailing out of the markets into safe heaven assets. Semiconductor is the worst hit.
