Cloud Doubles, Cash Flow Turns Negative — What Broke at Alphabet?

GOOGL plunged 12.64% Thursday as capex and cash burn overshadowed cloud growth. Q3 revenue of $127.58B and EPS of $2.12 missed estimates. Google Cloud revenue surged 103% to $30.71B, with $10.64B operating income, but free cash flow was negative $9.07B as capex hit $34.98B; full-year capex guidance rose to $185B–$187B. Bulls cite growth and backlog; bears question when they can cover depreciation and investment. How fast must Cloud grow to restore positive free cash flow within two quarters?

All eyes are this mega AI stock. I kind of feel that the pullback in tech stock is because people are cashing out to invest this big one.

Alphabet Fell 12.6%. I Think Wall Street Is Missing What Google Is Becoming.

Alphabet just gave investors one of the strangest earnings reports of this AI cycle. Revenue: $127.6B, +25% Google Cloud: $30.7B, +103% Cloud operating income: $11.1B Cloud backlog: $561B Search revenue: +12% Yet free cash flow fell to: -$9.1B And Alphabet shares plunged. The easy conclusion is: 🔴 Google is spending too much on AI. I think that misses something bigger. Google may be undergoing one of the most important business-model changes in its history. It is quietly moving from: SELLING ADS + RENTING CLOUD towards: SELLING AI INFRASTRUCTURE ITSELF. And that changes how I interpret the cash burn. 🔥 THE NUMBER EVERYONE SAW: CLOUD +103% Doubling a $15B quarterly business in one year is extraordinary. But look underneath it. Management specifically said: TPU SYSTEM SALES WERE A MEANINGFUL

What happen was stock markets often drop before election results because of uncertainty. Once the final makeup of the House and Senate is confirmed, even as a split the markets frequently stage a strong "relief rally" because the unknown factor is gone. Next week 😀

Free cash flow would convince me most. AI revenue and cloud growth can look impressive, but durable value ultimately requires those investments to generate more cash than the capital needed to sustain them. I would watch whether free cash flow improves even as depreciation and infrastructure costs catch up with the current capex boom. If revenue continues growing strongly while capex growth slows and FCF margins expand, that would be much stronger evidence that AI infrastructure is producing genuine economic returns rather than simply adding capacity. For me, the key transition is: AI demand → revenue growth → operating leverage → sustainable free cash flow.

Alphabet (Google): Two Days of Volatility and an Options Trading Opportunity Alphabet (GOOGL) experienced significant selling pressure over the past two trading days following its third-quarter 2026 earnings announcement. The stock suffered a historic decline of approximately 12.6% on Thursday, reflecting investors' disappointment with its earnings performance and concerns about its aggressive AI spending. Despite reporting 25% year-over-year revenue growth and an impressive 103% increase in Google Cloud revenue, Alphabet faced several challenges. Search advertising growth was slower than expected, while its free cash flow turned negative at approximately US$9.1 billion. Investors are increasingly questioning whether the enormous investments in AI infrastructure, data centres and computing
