Even new facilities in the U.K. and Israel sold out before launch, and the company now plans to scale to 2.5 gigawatts of contracted power by 2026.\nRead Also: Nvidia-Backed Nebius (NBIS) Has Crashed 24%— But Whales Are Treating It Like A Fire Sale\nToo Much Success, Not Enough Power\nExecutives described the situation as a \"capacity bottleneck\" — the limiting factor on growth. \"Everything we deploy, we sell,\" CEO Arkady Volozh said, adding that supply constraints, not competition, are shaping the company's strategy.\nThat demand imbalance isn't just coming from Big Tech customers like Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) and Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT)— Nebius' smaller clients, including startups like Cursor and Black Forest Labs, are lining up for compute they can't yet get. The situation has reached a point where Mark even joked that one of his new skills this quarter was \"learning to say no\" to eager customers.\nThe irony? Nebius' biggest challenge is the one problem most AI firms wish they had — scarcity.\nThe Bottleneck Business Model\nNebius' bullishness is hard to miss. The company raised its 2026 ARR outlook to $7 billion–9 billion, more than half already booked, and continues to invest heavily in new GPU-heavy data centers. But growth comes at a cost: its expansion now depends on capital, permits, and the pace of the power grid itself.\nFor now, \"sold out\" has become Nebius' default status — and \"no\" its most valuable word.\nRead Next: \n\nNebius Vs. Stocks that generate strong profit margins, pay dividends, and trade at modest multiples are all Buffett-type investments that could make for solid, long-term buys.HCA Healthcare (HCA -0.53%), United Parcel Service (UPS -0.29%), and Goldman Sachs (GS -1.91%) are all investments that fit these criteria. Here's a closer look at all three of them and why they are great buys for value investors.Image source: Getty Images.1. HCA HealthcareHCA Healthcare operates more than 180 hospitals and roughly 2,300 other care sites, including surgery centers, in the U.S. and U.K. Shares of the healthcare stock are down around 20% this year, performing worse than the S&P 500 and its 13% decline over the same period. The catalyst behind the sell-off was the release of the company's latest earnings report in April, which sent the stock tumbling. HCA reduced its guidance for 2022, which included reducing its revenue forecast by $500 million. For the year, it expects diluted per-share earnings to be between $16.40 and $17.60 (vs. a previous forecast range of $18.40 to $19.20). The company's profits will come in around $5 billion, which will be more than 8% of revenue. Those are still strong numbers for the business. And HCA's dividend, which pays $2.24 per share annually, is in no danger at all -- even with the trimmed forecast. The stock's yield of 1.1% is below the S&P 500 average of 1.4%, but there's definitely room for it to grow. The company increased its dividend payments by 17% earlier this year, up from the $0.48 quarterly payment it was making in 2021.Trading at a price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of less than 10, HCA is definitely an attractive option for value-oriented investors like Buffett.2. United Parcel ServiceBuffett's Berkshire Hathaway holds UPS in its portfolio today, but it's one of the company's smallest investments. I'd argue it warrants more of a position there. Buffett, after all, has long been a proponent of betting on America and the long-term success of the economy. A great way to do that is to bet on the success of a quick and efficient logistics company like UPS.Shares of UPS haven't crashed this year, they've merely gone along with the downward ride of the markets. The stock's 13% decline is in line with how the S&P 500 has performed thus far. But it should be doing better than that due to its resiliency. In the first three months of the year, the company's sales remained strong at $24.4 billion and rose 6.4% year over year. UPS reported net income of $2.7 billion, which was 11% of revenue and remained impressive. Last year, it averaged a profit margin of 13%.UPS trades at a P/E ratio of around 15, which is cheap when you consider the S&P 500 index averages an earnings multiple of nearly 22. The low valuation and UPS's dividend yield of 3.3% makes this a fantastic stock to load up on today. Earlier this year, the company hiked its dividend by a whopping 49% in light of its strong results.3. Goldman SachsTop investment bank Goldman Sachs was one of Buffett's holdings as recently as 2020, before Berkshire sold its stake in the business. Goldman's business is not in bad shape, and it has actually achieved incredible growth of late. In 2021, its net revenue of $59 billion marked a year-over-year increase of 33%. Net earnings of $21.6 billion were even more impressive, more than doubling in value as the company kept its costs contained while benefiting from a surge in investment banking revenue.Through the first three months of 2022, the business remains strong with profits of nearly $4 billion accounting for more than 30% of its net revenue. Goldman's diluted per-share earnings of $10.76 for just the first quarter would be enough to pay for its dividend, which over the course of four quarters totals just $8 per share. While the bank has room for more increases, at 2.5%, the dividend yield already provides lots of potential recurring income for investors. Last year, Goldman hiked its quarterly dividend from $1.25 to $2.Shares of the stock are down 17% this year and it looks like a great deal, trading at a P/E of 6 and right around its book value.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"161125":0.6,"513500":0.6,"OEX":0.6,"SDS":0.6,"BRK.B":0.9,"UPRO":0.6,"OEF":0.6,"SH":0.6,"GS":0.9,"SPY":0.82,"SSO":0.6,"ESmain":0.6,".SPX":0.6,"BRK.A":0.9,"IVV":0.6,"SPXU":0.6}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2392,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9080321272,"gmtCreate":1649848931805,"gmtModify":1676534589253,"author":{"id":"3563583079105546","authorId":"3563583079105546","name":"Jjireh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/abb31f7823549495261bb36e03885de5","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3563583079105546","authorIdStr":"3563583079105546"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good initiative 👏 ","listText":"Good initiative 👏 ","text":"Good initiative 👏","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9080321272","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2266,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9080321166,"gmtCreate":1649848901711,"gmtModify":1676534589237,"author":{"id":"3563583079105546","authorId":"3563583079105546","name":"Jjireh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/abb31f7823549495261bb36e03885de5","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3563583079105546","authorIdStr":"3563583079105546"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good initiative","listText":"Good initiative","text":"Good initiative","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9080321166","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1924,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9038308494,"gmtCreate":1646730713141,"gmtModify":1676534155976,"author":{"id":"3563583079105546","authorId":"3563583079105546","name":"Jjireh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/abb31f7823549495261bb36e03885de5","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3563583079105546","authorIdStr":"3563583079105546"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"10% more down will be about bottom i hope","listText":"10% more down will be about bottom i hope","text":"10% more down will be about bottom i hope","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9038308494","repostId":"1123223895","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1123223895","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1646708424,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1123223895?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-03-08 11:00","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Sea Limited: Enough Is Enough","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1123223895","media":"Seeking Alpha","summary":"SummarySE had an earnings beat but provided disappointing forward guidance. The company expects profi","content":"

Summary

SE had an earnings beat but provided disappointing forward guidance.

The company expects profitability in the next few years.

Macro factors could soon change in a positive way.

The time to rotate out of growth was 6 months ago. Now is the time to buy.

Thesis Summary

Sea Limited (SE) shares have been losing ground for the past 6 months, after being one of the best-performing stocks in 2020. This wasn't helped by SE's latest earnings report, which sent shares below $100.

While there are certainly some legitimate concerns, I believe the worst is already baked into SE's share price. Meanwhile, there's still a lot to be excited about in all three of its segments.

At today's price, SE is undervalued, and I expect the stock to come roaring back once market sentiment changes.

Earnings Results

SE reported results on March 1st, and investors were not pleased. While SE did beat on GAAP EPS and revenue, the forward guidance provided was lackluster especially when it comes down to Garena/Digital Entertainment.

Revenue Growth (Investor Presentation)

First off, here is the breakdown of revenue growth across the three segments. EC (Shopee = and DFS (SeaMoney) continue to grow strongly, particularly the latter, with a staggering 711% YoY growth. However, DE bookings are down substantially for the quarter and almost flat for the year.

Forward Guidance (Investor Presentation )

Worst of all though, is the fact that SE has guided DE revenues to be around $3 billion in 2022. In 2021, DE bookings were $4.6 billion. It's no surprise the company decided to omit including the "growth rate" for DE bookings in the slide above…

And yet, I do feel like SE is offering us a good adding price here. Market sentiment for growth stocks is in the gutter, and SE is dealing with some headwinds, but this is still a company growing at triple digits with a very profitable segment and a clear path towards it for the two others.

A Path to Profitability

It's hard to understand why share prices have come down as far as they have. There are market forces beyond our control, but the core SE business remains attractive. In terms of growth, investors can hardly complain. Shopee grew GMV by 53%. The platform is a leader in SE Asia, and it has cemented a great position in Brazil, which ensures growth for years to come. In Q4, Shopee Brazil's orders grew close to 400%, and revenues grew 636%, according to the earnings call.

The concern investors could have with Shopee is profitability, but this is moving in the right direction. Adjusted EBITDA loss improved by 21% YoY. If management is to be believed, we should see both EC and DFS break even in a few short years:

We currently expect Shopee to achieve positive adjusted EBITDA before HQ cost allocation in Southeast Asia and Taiwan by this year. We also expect SeaMoney to achieve positive cash flow by next year. As a result, we currently expect that by 2025 cash generated by Shopee and SeaMoney proactively will enable these two businesses to substantially self-fund their long-term growth.

Source: Earnings Call

Sea Money is also on the right track, revenue for Sea Money for 20220 is expected to come in between $1.1 billion and $1.3 billion, which is roughly a 155% year-on-year growth. Financial services are easy to monetize, especially when you have a large user base like Shopee.

SE is a growing company in a growing economy, leveraging three segments that also have great growth prospects. Life is moving increasingly online, as we can see by the growing interest in the metaverse. Furthermore, banking and payments are being disrupted by new technologies, cryptocurrencies and blockchain. SE is in a perfect position to leverage these innovations and provide these developing, but fast-growing economies, with the tools they need to get to the next level.

Untapped Potential

I also feel like investors are expecting the worst from DE and Free Fire. Free Fire is currently banned in India, due to concerns about data being sent to China. However, Singapore is in talks with the Indian government, and this issue could be resolved.

Furthermore, while Free Fire's growth is slowing down, there is plenty more that the company can do to monetize and grow this segment. Gaming is a very fast-growing industry, which is also being boosted by a newfound interest in the metaverse and play-to-earn games. According to a report by Massoit, the number of active wallets connected to gaming smart contracts doubled in 2021.

SE's Free Fire has over 150 million active users and this is an asset in itself. I believe the company would do well to gain some exposure to blockchain and leverage related technology like NFTs.

This is a mixed bag. I'm sure some investors would disagree with this idea and, luckily for them, there wasn't any talk of blockchain or NFTs in the earnings call. However, if indeed this technology is here to stay and take gaming to the next level, it's yet another compelling argument in favor of SE.

Other Considerations

The biggest challenge SE has faced though has been on the macro level. Investors have rotated out of growth stocks in the last 6 months. While this has been painful for those invested in these stocks, as of right now, it creates a great opportunity to buy. Many stocks, including SE, are down over 60% since their ATHs, making valuations attractive. Furthermore, there are concrete reasons I believe a turnaround could happen soon.

The worst-case scenario has been baked in for the market, which is predicting high inflation, rate hikes and is concerned over war in Ukraine. But these expectations could soon change.

The first evidence we have of this is the latest jobs report. Employment numbers were strong, but what is most notable is that wages were almost unchanged for the month. This is a signal that inflation is slowing down. With slower inflation, a weak market, and war abroad, I wouldn't be surprised if the Fed delays hikes. On top of that, we could soon see energy prices reach a top, as the US and other countries tap into their oil reserves.

Takeaway

The time to rotate out of growth was 6 months ago. Now is the time to start getting back in. Now is the time to buy.Thesis SummarySea Limited (SE) shares have been losing ground for the past 6 months, after being one of the best-performing stocks in 2020. This wasn't helped by SE's latest earnings report, which sent shares below $100.While there are certainly some legitimate concerns, I believe the worst is already baked into SE's share price. Meanwhile, there's still a lot to be excited about in all three of its segments. At today's price, SE is undervalued, and I expect the stock to come roaring back once market sentiment changes.Earnings ResultsSE reported results on March 1st, and investors were not pleased. While SE did beat on GAAP EPS and revenue, the forward guidance provided was lackluster especially when it comes down to Garena/Digital Entertainment.Revenue Growth (Investor Presentation)First off, here is the breakdown of revenue growth across the three segments. EC (Shopee = and DFS (SeaMoney) continue to grow strongly, particularly the latter, with a staggering 711% YoY growth. However, DE bookings are down substantially for the quarter and almost flat for the year.Forward Guidance (Investor Presentation )Worst of all though, is the fact that SE has guided DE revenues to be around $3 billion in 2022. In 2021, DE bookings were $4.6 billion. It's no surprise the company decided to omit including the \"growth rate\" for DE bookings in the slide above…And yet, I do feel like SE is offering us a good adding price here. Market sentiment for growth stocks is in the gutter, and SE is dealing with some headwinds, but this is still a company growing at triple digits with a very profitable segment and a clear path towards it for the two others.A Path to ProfitabilityIt's hard to understand why share prices have come down as far as they have. If management is to be believed, we should see both EC and DFS break even in a few short years:We currently expect Shopee to achieve positive adjusted EBITDA before HQ cost allocation in Southeast Asia and Taiwan by this year. We also expect SeaMoney to achieve positive cash flow by next year. As a result, we currently expect that by 2025 cash generated by Shopee and SeaMoney proactively will enable these two businesses to substantially self-fund their long-term growth.Source: Earnings CallSea Money is also on the right track, revenue for Sea Money for 20220 is expected to come in between $1.1 billion and $1.3 billion, which is roughly a 155% year-on-year growth. Financial services are easy to monetize, especially when you have a large user base like Shopee.SE is a growing company in a growing economy, leveraging three segments that also have great growth prospects. Life is moving increasingly online, as we can see by the growing interest in the metaverse. Furthermore, banking and payments are being disrupted by new technologies, cryptocurrencies and blockchain. SE is in a perfect position to leverage these innovations and provide these developing, but fast-growing economies, with the tools they need to get to the next level.Untapped PotentialI also feel like investors are expecting the worst from DE and Free Fire. Free Fire is currently banned in India, due to concerns about data being sent to China. However, Singapore is in talks with the Indian government, and this issue could be resolved.Furthermore, while Free Fire's growth is slowing down, there is plenty more that the company can do to monetize and grow this segment. Gaming is a very fast-growing industry, which is also being boosted by a newfound interest in the metaverse and play-to-earn games. According to a report by Massoit, the number of active wallets connected to gaming smart contracts doubled in 2021.SE's Free Fire has over 150 million active users and this is an asset in itself. I believe the company would do well to gain some exposure to blockchain and leverage related technology like NFTs.This is a mixed bag. I'm sure some investors would disagree with this idea and, luckily for them, there wasn't any talk of blockchain or NFTs in the earnings call. However, if indeed this technology is here to stay and take gaming to the next level, it's yet another compelling argument in favor of SE.Other ConsiderationsThe biggest challenge SE has faced though has been on the macro level. On top of that, we could soon see energy prices reach a top, as the US and other countries tap into their oil reserves.TakeawayThe time to rotate out of growth was 6 months ago. Now is the time to start getting back in. Inflation may have peaked, and with a slowing economy, and a flattening yield curve, nothing is stopping the Fed from continuing its easy money policy.Regardless of that though SE continues to be a compelling investment. The company has growth and a clear path to profitability, and we should see a strong turnaround in the stock when market sentiment changes. It may still take a while, but remember, it is always darkest before dawn.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SE":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2268,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9038949861,"gmtCreate":1646722472063,"gmtModify":1676534155250,"author":{"id":"3563583079105546","authorId":"3563583079105546","name":"Jjireh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/abb31f7823549495261bb36e03885de5","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3563583079105546","authorIdStr":"3563583079105546"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Worth a look","listText":"Worth a look","text":"Worth a look","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9038949861","repostId":"2217445438","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2217445438","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1646698097,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2217445438?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-03-08 08:08","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Market Correction: 2 Best Blue Chip Stocks to Buy and Hold Right Now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2217445438","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"These stalwart businesses look like smart investments, especially in a volatile market environment.","content":"
\n
When applied to stocks, the term \"blue chip\" generally refers to a well-established company with a strong market position and a track record of outperformance. Salesforce (NYSE:CRM) and Intuit (NASDAQ:INTU) are perfect examples. Both are industry leaders, and while the S&P 500 is up 82% over the past five years, Intuit and Salesforce shares have surged 253% and 284%, respectively, over the same period.Even so, neither stock has been spared during the ongoing sell-off. With Wall Street worried about the economic ramifications of high inflation and geopolitical conflict, the S&P 500 has fallen 10% from its high, meaning it's in correction territory. But Salesforce and Intuit have both plunged over 30%. Fortunately, that means long-term investors can buy a few shares of these blue chip stocks at a discount. Here's what you should know.1. SalesforceSalesforce pioneered the modern customer relationship management (CRM) industry. It was among the first companies to deliver software as a cloud service, and its flair for innovation has kept it on the cutting edge of technology. Its CRM platform comprises a suite of software for sales, customer service, marketing, and commerce, all designed to facilitate productivity and collaboration. More broadly, those tools help organizations grow by building and maintaining good customer relationships. To reinforce its core products, Salesforce also offers a low-code platform for drag-and-drop application development, an integration platform that syncs data across different systems, and analytics tools that help clients make sense of information. The company also supercharges its products with artificial intelligence, allowing businesses to automate service workflows, personalize marketing and commerce content, and make insightful sales decisions. Thanks to the breadth of its platform, Salesforce has led the CRM industry for eight consecutive years. In fact, it captured a 23.9% market share through the first half of 2021, up from 19.5% in 2020. That means Salesforce holds more market share than its next four competitors combined -- and that dominance has translated into strong financial results. Over the past year, revenue rose 25% to $26 billion, fueled by double-digit growth across all product segments and geographies, and free cash flow climbed 29% to $5.3 billion.Going forward, Salesforce puts its addressable market at $248 billion by 2025, leaving plenty of room for growth. And the founder-led management team is working to capitalize on that opportunity. Last year, Salesforce rolled out new features across its suite of CRM applications and acquired the communications platform Slack, a tool that now allows Salesforce clients to collaborate in real time even when they're working remotely. In short, Salesforce has a durable competitive advantage in a sizable market, and with shares trading at 7.5 times sales -- a good deal lower than the five-year average of 8.9 times sales -- now looks like a good time to add this blue chip stock to your portfolio.2. IntuitIntuit specializes in financial software and services, and its portfolio includes well-known brands like TurboTax and QuickBooks. Millions of consumers use the former to file their taxes each year, while the latter is a suite of accounting and commerce tools for small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and self-employed (SE) individuals. Intuit is the clear industry leader in both cases, holding 73% and 80% market share in U.S. tax preparation and accounting software, respectively.Management is strengthening its market position by working to transform Inuit into an AI-driven expert platform. For instance, TurboTax and QuickBooks now have \"live\" options, allowing users to connect with tax and bookkeeping professionals. And in 2020, Intuit acquired Credit Karma, an AI-powered finance tool that connects consumers with credit cards, insurance policies, deposit accounts, and various loan products (e.g., personal loans, auto loans).Collectively, Intuit's dominant position in the tax preparation and accounting spaces has led to consistently solid financial results. Over the past year, revenue climbed 48% to $11.4 billion, and free cash flow rose 24% to $3 billion. More importantly, Intuit has plenty of room to grow in the years ahead. The company puts its core market opportunity at $64 billion, a figure that includes TurboTax and QuickBooks. But that figure jumps to $230 billion when you add Credit Karma and value-added products for QuickBooks, like payment processing and payroll software for SMBs. On that note, Intuit recently acquired Mailchimp, a company that helps SMBs build digital storefronts, run targeted ad campaigns, and manage their customer relationships. A few years from now, that move may look brilliant, as it creates obvious synergies with Intuit's QuickBooks ecosystem. To summarize, Intuit is already the gold standard in tax preparation and accounting software, but its ambitious growth strategy could help it expand in the broader commerce and financial services markets. That's why this stock looks like a smart buy.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"INTU":0.9,"CRM":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3012,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9001788677,"gmtCreate":1641331728006,"gmtModify":1676533597555,"author":{"id":"3563583079105546","authorId":"3563583079105546","name":"Jjireh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/abb31f7823549495261bb36e03885de5","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3563583079105546","authorIdStr":"3563583079105546"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Buy the dip?","listText":"Buy the dip?","text":"Buy the dip?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9001788677","repostId":"1198843840","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1198843840","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1640876050,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1198843840?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-12-30 22:54","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Some Semiconductor Stocks Dropped in Morning Trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1198843840","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Some semiconductor stocks dropped in morning trading.Micron Technology fell more than 2% and AMD fel","content":"

Some semiconductor stocks dropped in morning trading.Micron Technology fell more than 2% and AMD fell more than 1%.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; MACD (moving average convergence divergence) ranks among the key stock market indicators (along with moving averages and RSI) that traders use consistently in their analysis.
\n
Let’s discuss a number of creative ways to use this powerful and versatile gauge.
\n
MACD, introduced in the late 1970s, is a trend-following momentum indicator. It helps to determine when a trend, and its associated momentum (i.e., directional speed and duration) has ended or begun, or might reverse direction.
\n
Be aware that MACD is a “lagging” or “backward-looking” indicator, which means its signals are delayed, but don’t let that deter you. When MACD yields a signal, it is often significant, especially if used on a weekly chart (versus the daily chart favored by short-term traders). In fact, the longer the MACD time frame, the more valid the results, which is one reason longer-term traders like myself prefer to use a weekly chart.
\n
When you view MACD on a chart, you see two lines. The black line is referred to as the “MACD line.” The gray (or red) line is referred to as the “signal line.” Remember: the MACD line is the leader line, while the signal line is the laggard line.
\n
In addition, a horizontal line runs across the chart called the “zero line” (0 line). The main function of the zero line is to alert you to the primary trend of the underlying price action.
\n
Four simple trading signals
\n
At its most basic level, MACD generates four signals:
\n
Buy:When the MACD line crosses above the zero line, it’s bullish.
\n
Buy:When the MACD line crosses above the nine-day signal line, it’s bullish.
\n
Sell:When the MACD line crosses below the zero line, it’s bearish.
\n
Sell:When the MACD line crosses below the nine-day signal line, it’s bearish.
\n
Note: When both the MACD line and nine-day signal line move in the same direction (uptrend or downtrend), that is a stronger, more significant signal.
\n
Keep in mind that just because MACD generates a buy or sell signal does not mean it is an actionable trade. Like that of any indicator, there are false signals. In addition, it’s essential that you confirm with other indicators before betting real money on a trade. Think of these MACD buy and sell signals as guidelines, not rules.
\n
Another limitation of MACD is that it does not work as well at stock market tops or when market volatility is low. Therefore, if you use MACD on the Dow Jones Industrial AverageDJIA,-0.48%or the S&P 500SPX,-0.91%in this current market, the signal is not as useful. That is why you should use MACD on individual stocks until volatility returns to the major market indexes.
\n
What MACD says about Tesla now
\n
For example, the weekly stock chart of TeslaTSLA,+0.33%shows its MACD is above the zero line, and the MACD line is above the signal line. Tesla is also above its moving averages.
\n
Based on this information, Tesla stock currently is a short-term “strong” buy. If Tesla’s MACD line drops below its signal line while both lines are above the zero line, the shares would be a “moderate” buy.
\n
A few years ago, I spoke with MACD’s creator, Gerald Appel. He told me that he created MACD in the late 1970s by entering numbers into a punch machine and a spreadsheet. After the personal computer was invented, he was able to automate the process.
\n
Appel expressed surprise that MACD became so popular. “It works because it’s adaptable to any time frame,” he said. “You can get a good reading of the major trend of the market by using MACD patterns that are based on monthly data. You can also use it on a five-minute chart.”
\n
MACD gives the most precise signals at market bottoms. Said Appel: “It’s more accurate at market low points than high points because of the way the market behaves. Market bottoms tend to be very sharp and pronounced, while tops tend to be broad and slow. It’s also possible for the market averages to keep drifting upwards while more and more stocks are falling.”
\n
Appel cautioned that you must confirm MACD signals against other indicators. “No indicator is infallible,” he said. “You might get a market rise and MACD turns down. Perhaps you think this is a sell signal. Well, it might not be.”
\n
Appel added that he likes to work with different MACD time frames simultaneously. For example, if the short-term MACD turns up along with the intermediate MACD, he’s more confident that the signal is valid.
\n
The MACD-Histogram
\n
One of the most powerful (but often ignored) additions to the MACD is the MACD-Histogram. Developed by Thomas Aspray in 1986, this oscillator is used to gauge momentum. It is a separate program that should be available on your charting package. Traders who use this feature typically view both MACD and the histogram on a stock chart simultaneously.
\n
The histogram is a series of bar graphs at the bottom of the stock screen. If the bars move above the zero line, it means the underlying stock (or index) is gaining strength, i.e., momentum. If the bars move below the zero line, the stock or index is losing strength.
\n
Many beginning traders don’t realize that momentum always changes before price does. That is what makes MACD and the MACD-Histogram so valuable. Both indicators detect when momentum is weakening. It could also be a signal to become bullish if the histogram bars move above the zero line.
\n
Histogram signals
\n
\n
If the MACD-Histogram bar changes to a lighter color, it means that momentum is diminishing. It is not a sell signal; it simply means that enthusiasm for that particular stock is waning.
\n
\n
\n
As mentioned earlier, if the histogram bar rises above the zero line, that is a buy signal. An uptrend may be developing. If the histogram bar drops below the zero line, that is a sell signal. A downtrend may be developing.
\n
\n
Red flags
\n
If you see the index prices as well as stock prices move higher, but MACD turns lower, that is a red flag. In addition, if you see the MACD-Histogram changing colors and the bars getting shorter, that confirms momentum is weakening (but confirm this against RSI or stochastics).
\n
If you have never used MACD or MACD-Histogram, give it a try. Use these measures for any stock that has hit bottom and is on its way higher. They’ll help confirm whether the stock has legs or is a just giving traders a head fake.
\n
Michael Sincere (michaelsincere.com) is the author of “Understanding Options” and “Understanding Stocks.”
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Savvy stock traders use these 2 insider tips to know when to buy and sell
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nSavvy stock traders use these 2 insider tips to know when to buy and sell\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-09-20 15:34 GMT+8 MarketWatch\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
MACD and the MACD-Histogram can give your trading portfolio a boost.\n\nFor many stock traders, four letters can spell the difference between a winning and losing position.
