Want Both Dividends & Growth! How Long Have You Held Your Longest SG Stock?
This week, $YZJ Shipbldg SGD(BS6.SI)$ saw major stock volatility after its earnings release: it plunged yesterday and rebounded 2.76% today. So far this year, YTD gains are 18%, and last year it surged an incredible 116%! 💥
YZJ recorded $2.17 billion in orders in the first 9 months, four times its first-half total, bringing the total order book to $22.83 billion. However, its dividend yield among SG stocks isn’t very high, at around 3%.
Many think US stocks offer higher gains, but some SG stocks are also shining: For example, $PropNex(OYY.SI)$ has risen 150% YTD, with a dividend yield of about 4%!
As some investors say: “Compounding is the eighth wonder of the world.”
Buffett once said: “If you’re not willing to own a stock for 10 years, don’t even think about owning it for 10 minutes.” This isn’t just a mindset—it’s a strategy to let a company’s value be recognized by the market over time.
Think about it: dividends + holding for the long term—could this be a slow magic for building wealth? ✨ Plus, SG stocks have tax-free dividends—corporate profits are already taxed, and individuals receive dividends completely tax-free, another small advantage for long-term investors.
So, what’s the longest-held Singapore stock in your portfolio?
How long have you held it? Is it for dividends, growth, or both?
Do you plan to hold stocks for 10 years or longer?

what’s the longest-held Singapore stock in your portfolio?
How long have you held it? Is it for dividends, growth, or both?
Do you plan to hold stocks for 10 years or longer?
Singapore stocks give me a good mix of stability and tax-free dividends, which really help compounding. I hold a few SG names for both growth and income, and my longest-held one has been in my portfolio for several years. I don’t trade these often—I mainly let the dividends and business growth do the work.
I’m also open to holding quality stocks for 10 years or longer as long as fundamentals stay solid. Compounding needs time, and combining dividends with patient holding remains one of my favorite ways to build wealth.

As China's largest and most efficient private shipbuilder , YZJ isn't just about building ships . It is also about building wealth.
What makes YZJ special is its exceptional efficiency and cost control. YZJ operates with an owner oriented mindset from top to bottom , which fosters high productivity and lower operating costs . This superior operational efficiency translates into consistently higher profit margins , with recent gross margins reaching a record 35%.
The creation and spinoffs of YZJ Financial and YZJ Maritime are smart capital allocation strategies . It allows each business unit to grow with a focused independent management team.
I have held YZJ since 2022 & simply let the magic of compounding happen over time.

I do agree with the Buffett line for most parts. But once in a blue moon, I pop into roller coaster stocks to get a quick profit, I do think that is ill-disciplined of me, but it gives me some action (because I tend to go for companies with solid fundamentals and just stick with them for the long term).
