2025 Recap: My Portfolio's Masterclass in Missed Opportunities

🌟🌟🌟Ah 2025: The year my portfolio became a tapestry woven with threads of Triumph , Regrets and Cautious Mediocrity.  As the year concludes , I am reflecting on those supposedly "easy" trade opportunities that defined the market, all while trying to be maintain my fragile sense of financial competence.

However I can't pretend I missed everything.  My inner Gold and Silver bugs came out to play, catching the glorious surge in Gold and Silver through my 2 ETFs $iShares Gold Trust(IAU)$  and $iShares Silver Trust(SLV)$

I also managed to hop on the $NVIDIA(NVDA)$  rocket ship that skyrocketed from USD 86 to over USD 200+!  These are small wins compared to the other missed opportunities.

I looked at the Chinese tech stock revaluations of Alibaba and Tencent and thought, "I will just observed from the sidelines".  FOMO or fear of missing out is a deep, physical pain.  However I dipped my toes into $iShares China Large-Cap ETF(FXI)$  .  This ETF holds 50 of the largest Chinese companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange .  Its holdings include both Tencent and Alibaba, together with Xiaomi and major banks like China Construction Bank.  FXI gives me exposure to China's biggest most liquid firms.

However FXI ETF has none of the pure unadulterated thrill or risk of going all in on a single stock's meteoric rise.

Then came the AMD "finally catches up" saga.  The whole semiconductor world was buzzing .  My brilliant strategy ? Diversification via $Invesco PHLX Semiconductor ETF(SOXQ)$ .

SOXQ holds 30 of the largest US listed semiconductor companies like NVIDIA, Broadcom, AMD and Micron.  It is the investing equivalent of getting a sampler platter when your friend orders the entire lobster.  It is safe, practical but profoundly less exciting.

And finally Tesla.  The stock that went from a nail biting USD 200 support hold to a glorious new high.  A story of electric dreams and market resilience.

My response? DRIV ETF - the Global X Autonomous & Electric Vehicles ETF.  It holds not just Tesla but other EV companies.  DRIV holds companies driving automotive technology, EVs, components and materials like lithium.  It offers broad exposure to this growing industry.  It is like going to an all you can eat buffet and only eating the salad and few bread rolls.  Sensible - Yes.  Wealth generating in a dramatic way? Not so much.

Concluding Thoughts

So here's to 2025, a year that perfectly encapsulated my ability to both win small and miss big.  My portfolio is a balanced, somewhat boring testament to caution.

My portfolio is filled with sensible ETFs designed for long term growth while the market gods may laugh hysterically at my lack of nerve.

Here's to 2026, where I will hopefully make better decisions and maybe, not opt for the sampler platter next time.  As they say Fortune Favours the Bold.
