š„ MUSK JUST CHANGED THE CHIP GAME ā AND INTEL IS FEELING IT
One headline. Three very different market reactions.
TSMC jumped 2.75% to a record $485.80 after Elon Musk confirmed that discussions are underway with TSMC around the proposed Terafab project.
SpaceX surged 7.63% to $171.09.
And Intel?
Down 2.63% to $116.19 ā the clear semiconductor laggard.
That reaction tells an interesting story.
Intel had previously been the only publicly named foundry partner connected to Muskās chip ambitions. Now that TSMC is reportedly part of the conversation, investors appear to be reassessing just how much of that potential opportunity Intel can ultimately capture.
But thereās another side to this trade.
If Terafab requires leading-edge manufacturing capacity, TSMC could potentially benefit regardless of exactly how the final partnership is structured.
That explains why the market may be treating TSMC as the āpicks and shovelsā play ā while Intel faces questions about whether it remains central to the project.
Still, there is a big gap between talks and revenue.
Thereās no confirmed order, no disclosed chip volume, no final capacity commitment and no firm timeline yet.
So investors are essentially trading on the possibility of a massive future project before the economics are fully known.
That makes Intelās reaction particularly interesting.
Is the market simply repricing Intelās potential role?
Or is this an early signal that the competitive foundry landscape around Muskās chip ambitions could look very different from what investors expected?
TSMC is celebrating the possibility. Intel is being forced to defend its position.
Now the market needs to see something more concrete than a conversation.
Talks are exciting. Contracts are what move earnings. š
