Netflix (NFLX)

watchlist

looks attractive for long-term research after its post-earnings sell-off, but it is not yet a clean momentum buy. The business is still executing well; the market is reacting to a weaker near-term outlook—especially the reduced advertising forecast—and the chart remains in a volatile decline.

Price action: NFLX traded at US$65.46 on 2026-10-21 , down 4.71% intraday, with volume running at 3.28× normal. It is only 2.12% above its 52-week low of US$64.10 and 47.57% below its US$124.86 high. This is a valuation reset, but also signals that expectations have been materially cut.

What the latest results say: 2026Q3 revenue was US$12.87bn, +11.85% YoY ; operating income was US$4.46bn, +37.26% YoY ; and net income was US$3.66bn, +43.86% YoY . Nine-month operating margin improved to about 33.5% (US$12.61bn operating income on US$37.68bn revenue), versus roughly 31.3% a year earlier. The core subscription/content model is becoming more profitable.

Why shares fell: Q4 revenue growth is expected to slow to 11.5% , management cut its 2026 advertising-revenue outlook from US$3.0bn to US$2.7bn , and Q4 profit guidance was below market expectations. That explains why strong reported Q3 earnings did not produce a rally.

Tiger News

Valuation has improved: The trailing P/E is 20.6× , and forward P/E is 21.2× , versus its historical average forward P/E of 35.8× —a 40.7% discount based on the current valuation-series figures. Consensus expects 2026 revenue growth of 13.25% and EPS growth of 41.42% , followed by lower but still positive growth in 2027. This is no longer priced like a high-multiple streaming winner.

Street view: 51 analysts collectively rate it Buy (about 73% Buy/Strong Buy; 24% Hold; 4% Sell). The US$92.73 average 12-month target is 41.7% above the current price, though the wide US$57–126 range shows high disagreement. That target is an external consensus benchmark, not a forecast or guaranteed outcome.

Balance sheet/cash generation: 2026 nine-month operating cash flow reached US$10.20bn , up 26.86% YoY . Total liabilities were US$29.40bn against US$58.68bn in assets at 2026Q3. The main point is that cash generation remains strong enough to support content investment and capital returns.

What would make the bullish case stronger: evidence in the next report that ad monetisation is re-accelerating, revenue growth stabilises rather than decelerates, and the stock stops making new lows on lower selling volume. Technically, the near-term trend is still classified as a volatile decline, so business value and near-term price behaviour are not aligned yet.

Two material risks

Advertising execution: The US$300m reduction to the 2026 advertising outlook means the market needs proof that ad-tier engagement and monetisation can scale; another downward revision could pressure estimates.

Tiger News

Growth/multiple risk: Revenue growth is still expected to remain double-digit, but it is decelerating. If that trajectory worsens while content costs rise, the current lower valuation may not be the floor.

For an investor with a multi-year horizon, NFLX now screens as a reasonable watchlist candidate with improving fundamental value, rather than an obvious immediate momentum entry. For a shorter horizon, waiting for price stabilisation and clearer advertising guidance would reduce the risk of buying into an unresolved post-earnings downtrend.
