Tencent upgrades large model R&D architecture, former OpenAI researcher Yao Shunyu joins as chief AI scientist
On December 17, 2025, Tencent announced the upgrade of its large model research and development structure, establishing an AI Infra Department, an AI Data Department and a Data Computing Platform Department, and comprehensively strengthening the large model research and development system. Yao Shunyu, a former OpenAI researcher, serves as the chief AI scientist of the CEO/President's Office, and concurrently serves as the head of the AI Infra Department and the Large Language Model Department, reporting to Tencent's top management.
