$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$’s second-quarter results were difficult to dismiss as ordinary AI hype.

The company delivered:

  • Revenue: $1.935 billion, up 93% year over year

  • Adjusted operating margin: 62%

  • GAAP operating margin: 47%

  • Adjusted free cash flow: $1.220 billion

  • Rule of 40 score: 155

Most software companies must choose between rapid growth and high profitability. $Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ is currently delivering both.

The results do not prove that the stock is cheap. They do show that the underlying business is stronger than many investors expected.

🚀 1. Commercial AI Was the Main Breakthrough

$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$’s U.S. commercial revenue reached $764 million, rising:

  • 149% year over year

  • 28% quarter over quarter

This is important because Palantir has traditionally been viewed as a government and defence contractor.

The latest results suggest that its software is also scaling across private-sector customers.

Palantir’s advantage is not simply providing access to AI models. Its platforms connect AI with:

  • Company data

  • User permissions

  • Business logic

  • Operational workflows

  • Real-world decision-making

This allows customers to use AI in areas such as production, inventory, logistics and equipment maintenance—not just chatbots or internal demonstrations.

📑 2. Growth Was Spread Across Many Contracts

During the quarter, Palantir closed:

  • 220 deals worth at least $1 million

  • 73 deals worth at least $10 million

  • $3.373 billion in total contract value

  • $2.132 billion in U.S. commercial contract value

  • $6.238 billion in U.S. commercial remaining deal value

U.S. government revenue also reached $809 million, up 90% year over year.

Palantir now benefits from two major growth engines:

  1. Enterprise adoption of operational AI

  2. Government and defence modernisation

However, contract value is not the same as guaranteed revenue. Some agreements may include optional periods, renegotiation rights, or termination clauses.

The key question is how quickly these contracts convert into recognised revenue and cash flow.

💰 3. Profitability Was as Impressive as Growth

$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ generated:

  • Adjusted operating income: $1.194 billion

  • Adjusted operating margin: 62%

  • GAAP operating income: $912 million

  • GAAP operating margin: 47%

  • Adjusted free cash flow: $1.220 billion

  • Adjusted free-cash-flow margin: 63%

The 62% adjusted margin excludes stock-based compensation and related payroll taxes, so it should not be compared directly with another company’s GAAP margin.

Even so, a 47% GAAP operating margin remains exceptional for a company growing revenue by 93%.

The results suggest that Palantir is gaining strong operating leverage as customers expand their use of its software.

⚖️ 4. The Valuation Remains the Main Risk

$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to approximately $8.15 billion.

It also expects:

  • Third-quarter revenue: around $2.16 billion

  • U.S. commercial revenue growth: at least 134% for the year

At a market value of roughly $380 billion, Palantir trades at approximately 47 times guided annual revenue.

That valuation assumes the company can continue to:

  • Maintain exceptional growth

  • Preserve high margins

  • Convert contract value into revenue

  • Expand beyond the U.S. market

  • Defend its competitive advantage

A slowdown could hurt the stock in two ways:

  1. Analysts lower their revenue and earnings forecasts

  2. Investors assign the company a lower valuation multiple

A great company is not automatically a great investment at every price.

@Grace Tann
