Ada Tan Jia Ying: From Account Setup to Tiger AI — Building a Better Investing Workflow

Speaker: Ada Tan Jia Ying

Hey Tigers 🐯!

For new investors, opening a brokerage account can feel like the beginning of investing.

But in reality, that is only the beginning of learning how to invest.

During the latest Tiger First Stripes: Getting Started with Tiger Trade App session, Ada Tan Jia Ying walked users through everything from account types and app navigation to community features, rewards, and Tiger AI.

At first glance, these may look like separate product features.

But taken together, they point to one bigger idea:

Good investing starts with building a better process.

Not trading faster.

Not clicking more.

And not relying on one tool to make decisions for you.

🧾 Step 1: Understand the Account Before the Trade

One of Ada’s first points was also one of the most important.

Before thinking about what to buy, investors should first understand which account they are using.

Tiger users may have access to different account types, including:

•         Prime Margin

•         Prime Cash

•         Cash Boost

Each comes with different rules around leverage, buying power, and fees.

The distinction matters because:

Buying power is not the same as cash.

Prime Margin may provide additional buying power through leverage.

Prime Cash uses actual deposited funds.

Cash Boost works through a credit limit and may involve higher fees.

For a beginner, these differences can easily be overlooked.

But they directly affect both risk and transaction cost.

Ada’s walkthrough reinforces a simple idea:

The account is part of the trade.

Before placing an order, users should understand:

Account → Buying Power → Fees → Product → Trade

That sequence matters.

📱 Step 2: Know Where Your Information Lives

Once the account structure is clear, the next challenge is navigation.

Tiger Trade includes multiple sections such as:

Home
Quotes
Community
Portfolio
Profile

For a new user, it can be tempting to treat these as separate tabs.

But Ada’s walkthrough suggests a more useful way to think about them:

Home → Discover

Quotes → Understand

Portfolio → Monitor

Profile → Personalize

This turns the app into a workflow rather than a collection of features.

The Home page can be customized around the information users care about most.

Quotes provides access to market data and different products.

Portfolio brings together positions, pending orders, and transaction records.

Profile contains settings, rewards, and additional services.

The deeper lesson here is not that investors should use every feature.

It is that they should know where to find the right information when they need it.

You do not need to master everything on day one. You need to know where to look.

That reduces friction — and can also reduce mistakes.

🧠 Step 3: Use Community to Improve Your Thinking, Not Replace It

Another major part of the session focused on Tiger Community and learning resources.

Users can follow market experts, KOLs, and other investors while reading and publishing investment-related content.

That can be valuable because investing is not an isolated process.

Markets are constantly being shaped by:

•         earnings

•         macro data

•         sector trends

•         company announcements

•         investor expectations

Community gives users another source of ideas and perspectives.

But there is an important distinction.

Other investors’ opinions should be an input, not an answer.

A confident post is not automatically a good thesis.

A popular view is not automatically correct.

And someone else’s risk tolerance may be completely different from yours.

A better way to use Community is to ask:

Why is this person bullish?
What data supports the view?
What could break the thesis?
Does the time horizon match mine?

That turns Community into a research tool.

Not a copy-trading shortcut.

🎁 Step 4: Rewards Should Support the Journey — Not Drive the Trade

Ada also introduced Tiger Points and reward mechanisms.

Users can earn points through activities such as:

•         daily check-ins

•         completing missions

•         community participation

•         trading-related activities

These points can be redeemed for benefits such as cash vouchers, commission-related rewards, and merchandise.

The session also covered a binding reward tied to qualifying trading activity.

Rewards can make the platform more engaging.

But there is a broader principle worth keeping in mind:

Never trade only for the reward.

An incentive should come after the investment decision — not create the investment decision.

That matters because rewards can subtly influence behavior.

For investors, the trade should make sense first.

The benefit comes second.

🤖 Step 5: Let AI Process More — But Keep Judgment Human

The final part of the session may be the most relevant to how investing is changing.

Ada introduced Tiger AI, which can help with:

•         stock analysis

•         market trend interpretation

•         earnings summaries

•         preset investment-related questions

The value is easy to see.

Investors today face an enormous amount of information.

Earnings reports are long.

News moves quickly.

Narratives change.

AI can help compress that first layer of information.

But Ada also emphasized an important limitation:

AI-generated information should be used as a reference, not as a replacement for independent judgment.

That distinction matters.

AI can summarize.

AI can organize.

AI can surface questions.

But it can also be incomplete, outdated, or wrong.

A better workflow is:

AI → Research → Verification → Judgment

Not:

AI → Trade

That is probably one of the most important lessons from the session.

AI should shorten research, not shorten thinking.

🔄 The Bigger Picture: Investing Is a Process, Not a Button

Taken together, Ada’s session was not really about learning five different app features.

It was about building a better investing routine.

A stronger process might look like this:

Understand the account

↓

Find the information

↓

Learn from different perspectives

↓

Use tools to process information

↓

Verify

↓

Decide independently

↓

Monitor what happens next

That is a much more useful framework than simply:

Find a stock → Press Buy

The more experienced investors become, the more they realize that execution is only one small part of investing.

The harder part is:

understanding the structure, filtering information, asking better questions, and managing risk.

🐯 Ada’s Core Takeaways

If there is one message to take away from the whole session, it is this:

Use the platform to improve the quality of your decisions — not simply the quantity of your trades.

Account structure helps you understand your exposure.

Quotes and Portfolio help you understand what is happening.

Community gives you more perspectives.

Learning resources help build product knowledge.

Tiger AI helps process information faster.

But the final decision still belongs to the investor.

Tools can make you faster. A good process makes you better.

And for new investors, building that process may be far more valuable than finding the next trade.

🐯 Which part of your investing workflow do you want to improve most — research, portfolio tracking, risk management, or using AI more effectively?

Investing involves risk. AI-generated information, community content, and educational materials are for general reference only and should not be considered financial advice. Investors should conduct their own research and make decisions based on their individual circu

Risk management is the part I want to improve most.

Research can help me find a good investment, but even a great thesis can be ruined by poor position sizing, chasing after a rally or holding too long when the facts change.

I want to become more systematic about deciding how much to buy, when to add, and what would make me reduce or exit a position before emotions enter the picture.

AI can certainly make research faster, but I think the bigger advantage is using better discipline to turn good research into consistent decisions.

Finding winners matters. Making sure one mistake cannot undo several good decisions matters even more.

I believe a good investing journey starts with understanding the basics, especially account types, fees, buying power & risk exposure. Having the right tools is useful, but knowing how to use them properly is even more important. I prefer to understand what I am investing in rather than rush into a trade.

For me, Community & Tiger AI are valuable tools for discovering ideas & making research more efficient. However, I always believe in doing my own due diligence and verifying information before making a decision. Other investors can offer useful perspectives, but their strategies & risk tolerance may not suit mine.

My focus is on consistency, patience & disciplined risk management rather than trading frequently. I see AI as a way to improve my research process, not replace my judgment. Ultimately, the goal is not to make more trades, but to make better decisions & stay committed to a long-term investing plan.

Risk management. I want to get better at knowing when to hold, when to take profits, and when to cut losses, especially with growth stocks. AI can help identify risks and compare opportunities, but having a clear strategy matters more than chasing the next big winner.

The Most Valuable Investing Skill Is Knowing What to Ignore

I would improve my research and verification process.

Markets rarely lack information; they suffer from too much noise. AI summarizes earnings, Community offers perspectives, and market data reveals trends. But information alone does not generate returns.

The real advantage lies in understanding cash flow, competitive advantages, and valuation.

A company can deliver strong earnings while its stock remains overpriced. Temporary weakness, however, may create opportunities if fundamentals remain intact.

I would use AI to identify questions, Community to challenge assumptions, and financial statements to verify answers.

Use technology to expand your research, not outsource your judgment.

Successful investing means identifying what matters, verifying facts, and having the discipline to walk away when the numbers do not justify a trade.
