I am looking at the Big 3 Banks to see if there will be any significant corrections. UOB did not post good results, but it seems the hiccup was minor, so I expect sone slide downwards. DBS and OCBC seemed to have rode the earning reports' to highs, but I believe that was overly optimistic and corrections have to happen, what with the losses for US tech stocks likely to have a domino effect. Maybe it will be a nice Christmas present 👍🏼

$SingPost(S08.SI)$ should not be judged too harshly, they provide a service that is essential but faces stiff competition, the leadership should be sensible in their decisions, not purely chasing profits... (What's with the decision closing down PO Box services in community hubs, and selling the HDB shop house units... terrible decision in my eyes, if there were still users, just keep it running, even if the PO Box service was really redundant, keep the units... might as well rent them out and be a Landlord for more revenue)

I've been staring at my DBS and UOB charts all afternoon, and honestly, the contrast is jarring. DBS $DBS Group Holdings(D05.SI)$   just printed S$2.95 billion in Q3 profit—beating the Street by S$230 million—while UOB $UOB(U11.SI)$  bled 72% of its earnings to S$443 million. Same city, same rate cycle, yet one bank is lapping the other. I can't decide if I'm impressed or worried that the gap is now this wide. The numbers tell two different stories about 2026. DBS says its total income next year will hover around 2025 levels even with "rate headwinds," and its net interest margin only slipped 15 bps to 1.96%. UOB, on the othe

At this juncture, 2026 does not look “harsh” in an existential sense — but it does look structurally less generous than 2023–24. The 2023–2024 cycle was effectively the peak-NIM yield harvest effect of the post-pandemic rate shock. We are now sliding down the normalisation curve. Observations 1) DBS remains in the “resilient balance-sheet” cohort Their Q3 surprised on the upside because they have a materially higher CASA proportion, better treasury income contribution, and better operating leverage. Even with NIM compression from 2.11 → 1.96, they are still printing a very strong RoE profile. 2) UOB’s issue is not merely “lower NIM” The sharp drop in reported Q3 profit is magnified by the credit-provision swing. That is the greater signalling variable, because it implies that UOB’s credit

$DBS Group Holdings(D05.SI)$ delivered record income and a higher dividend despite softer margins, supported by strong wealth management and deposit growth. The 2026 outlook signals only a slight earnings dip, showing its balance-sheet strength. With the stock breaking above $55, DBS continues to stand out among local banks. In contrast, $UOB(U11.SI)$ profits slumped due to heavy provisions and weaker margins. Management’s prudence in building reserves is wise, but the steep profit drop and cautious guidance highlight ongoing challenges. Investors are rightly pricing in near-term headwinds for UOB. Buy the dip for long term on $UOB(U11.SI)$. The management already anticipates double digit fee income growth while maintaining cost discipline with low single digit operating expense growth. It is confirmed that the elevated Q3 provisions were strategic in nature rather than a response to any deteriorating asset quality. The management’s decision to build a substantial provision buffer while explicitly protecting the 2025 final dividend suggests they’re prioritizing long term shareholder returns over short term reported earnings. For income investors with a long term perspective, this conservative approach may prove more valuable than maximizing quarterly profits. 2026 may be getting unpredictable, but UoB will be sure to continue thriving.
